Title: College World Series Tonight-SEC Playing for Another Championship
Post by: Marshal Dillon on June 24, 2013, 06:51:11 PM
Miss. State plays UCLA tonight in game 1 of the College World Series. How come the Big Ten is not represented? Go SEC & Mississippi State!

Miss St has never won an NCAA national championship in sports.  UCLA has tons.  Gotta root for State.

9th inning, UCLA up 3-1

And that was the final, UCLA wins game 1, 3-1.  Miss. State gave up the early runs and couldn't get them back.  Got some men on base in the later innings, but that's as far as it got.

Miss State had base runners but UCLA seemed to get out of every inning with a double play. If Miss St can get a few timely hits they can still win this thing.

Pitching at TD Ameritrade is like golfing without rough. No penalty for mistakes.

yep, that about sums it up.  UCLA might have set a series record for double plays in one game, or so it seemed.  Just a base hit or two instead of a grounder would have been the difference.

Well I am still pulling for MSU because of the SEC connection. RTR!

UCLA must have some outstanding pitching, because I heard onthe broadcast last night that their team batting average was .246, good for about 230th in the country or something like that. IN the CWS, they were batting under .200. Unbelievable.

I don't understand why Miss State doesn't bunt runners to second.  I watched them throughout the regionals and the super regionals and so far in the CWS, and they don't use the sac. bunt as an offensive tool.  Hence, hitting into numerous double plays.

In Game 1 Miss State got runners on 1st & 2nd with 0 outs. They tried to bunt them over and failed. With 2 strikes the bunt was taken off and he hit into a DP. Next batter ground out to 2nd base, inning over. Bunting is a fundamental high school players should know how to do. It amazes me how many college players can not bunt when needed.

Can't argue the fact of not being able to bunt but it's not only he college players, professional players struggle as well. I haven't payed that much attention to the Braves this year but in years past, the Braves couldn't move a runner.

I'm changing channels, UCLA pitching is awesome and MSU hitting sucks.

This UCLA team is one of the better teams that I have seen in the CWS. Their coaches have done a fantastic job with them, I just didn't see many weaknesses in any area with them. Maybe CMG has been watching the series and can get an idea of what it takes to get there and win it.

I was pulling for John Cohen and his team to win as I was John's first ever baseball coach, but UCLA was the better team. I think this MSU team though has some good years ahead for them.

UCLA's pitching was unbelievable.  .94 ERA in post season play?  Miss State kept swinging for the fence and getting fly outs.

That is great J.  Oftentimes when I am coaching little league I wonder if any of them will grow up to play at the college or even higher level.
