Title: Just when you thought the offseason was getting too dull to bear.... Post by: ALTideUp on June 23, 2013, 07:16:20 PM Check this out.
Quote Opelika Harrold Auburn AD Proposes Pro Style Draft for SEC Nat Fahreal Staff writer June 12, 2013, Opelika, AL. In a statement to local reporters made today, Auburn University athletic director, Jay Jacobs, raised the possibility of introducing a pro-style draft to the SEC. Jacobs noted that in the current system of independent recruitment, the most successful programs attract the most talented prospects. This, he said, “creates greater and greater separation between the most and least successful teams”. According to Jacobs, this “will eventually hurt the power rankings of the most successful teams, dropping them out of contention for a BCS bowl birth, and at the same time doom the lower ranked teams to perennial losing seasons”. “To ensure the health of our league” he said, “we must find a way to achieve balance and parity”. When asked about how such a plan would work at the college level, Jacobs outlined a tentative plan. In his proposal, teams would continue to recruit as they are currently. However, “athletes would sign letters of intent to play in the SEC instead of a particular school”, he said. “Shortly after the February signing day a meeting would be held in Destin at which teams like our program and Vandy and Kentucky and Tennessee would get first dibs on the players we need to round out our squads”. When asked what would happen if a player did not wish to play at the school by which he was chosen, Jacobs appeared confused. “These are all great schools, and we could pay them more to come to schools that may not have been their first choice”, he said, and added that the players who ended up at programs like Alabama and LSU might be disappointed at first, but that weekly national TV appearances, Sports Illustrated cover photos, and national championships would probably “take the edge off”. Our staff contacted several other programs for comment but were unsuccessful. However, in a statement released by the Alabama athletic department, the Jacobs plan was described as both different and interesting. Title: Re: Just when you thought the offseason was getting too dull to bear.... Post by: Marshal Dillon on June 23, 2013, 08:15:13 PM Wow, I can see it now. 5 star linebacker wants to play for Saban and increase his chances to play in the NFL, instead he is "drafted" by Kentucky. Then, a 5 wide receiver out of Miami wants to play at Georgia but ends up drafted by Mississippi State. Jacobs has a point, with this crackpot idea the SEC would have parity, we would all stink because all the 5 & 4 star players would go play in a different conference. Jacobs is a true idiot. We would have parity with the Big East.
:duh: Title: Re: Just when you thought the offseason was getting too dull to bear.... Post by: McBaman on June 23, 2013, 08:41:27 PM Good one there ATU. I think the writer -- Nat Fahreel -- got it right. It's not for real!!!

Title: Re: Just when you thought the offseason was getting too dull to bear.... Post by: ricky023 on June 23, 2013, 09:32:10 PM This is so foolish. Jacobs wants get auburn off the bottom so bad he can taste it. Everytime he gets close Alabama will slap the taste out of his mouth. Can you actually believe this guy did this in open public. He is so sad. RTR!
Title: Re: Just when you thought the offseason was getting too dull to bear.... Post by: cbbama99 on June 24, 2013, 06:29:26 AM I think the first clue should have been that "Herald" is spelled "Harrold" (of course, it is Lee County, so anything is possible).
Still pretty funny though. I wouldn't put it past Jacobs to come up with something this ludicrous. :lol2: Title: Re: Just when you thought the offseason was getting too dull to bear.... Quote Our staff contacted several other programs for comment but were unsuccessful. Because they were all busy gasping for breath from laughing so hard. No wonder Auburn athletics is in shambles. Jacobs is a complete idiot. Title: Re: Just when you thought the offseason was getting too dull to bear.... Just trying to inject a little excitement into a sleepy off-season. When I saw that there are 68 days until kick-off I just snapped.

KP was the master of the faux insider tip. Because he really did have a lot of good info, he could throw in a hoax every now and then and have people running around with their heads on fire. My genre is the faux news story. I always tried to make them funny and never really intended them to reel anyone in, but I discovered that not matter how ridiculous I made them, people still believed if it was consistent with their world view. In fact, there is almost nothing bad about Auburn that people won't believe, no matter how crazy the story is. So now that y'all are in on this. When I post the next one, join in on the fun and let's see how many newbies we can reel in. ;) Anyway, below is an archive of some of my WoollyAl posts. The responses are funnier than the articles.
