Title: Devonta Pollard Update
Post by: pmull on June 19, 2013, 08:35:37 PM
Clear as mud. I will be shocked if he plays again at Alabama.  :dunno:

Former four-star small forward Devonta Pollard remains with the Alabama Crimson Tide program, according to a source, despite ongoing legal troubles stemming from a kidnapping case in his home state of Mississippi.

The source said nothing has been made official regarding Pollard's status with the program and that the team's top concern is getting Pollard through his recent legal trouble before any decisions are made. Pollard was still listed under the university's student directory as of Wednesday afternoon.

Both The Associated Press and CBS Sports have reported that Pollard is no longer enrolled at the university. The school has yet to formally address the charges or Pollard's standing with the team.

Pollard is toast in my opinion. He needs to worry more about going to the penitentiary, not his status on the team.

I don't know all the details, but it may be a situation where he will plea bargain in exchange for testimony against his mother. He may never see prison. Chances are, he'll never see the court at Coleman again, either.

This is what I have said from the start. Plus, this is a method to get momma to plead guilty to save her son. However, I bet he still has to plead to some type of felony, then get either probation or a 1-2 year sentence. It's not going to be pretty.

I agree with all of you on him ever coming back to the U of A. I also understand due process, but when the football players robbed and beat up the srudents, the University immediately kicked them out of school. Why is Pollard being left on the team then, he committed a federal crime?

The football player situation happened on campus and they admitted guilt. I still believe their is more to the Pollard mess than anyone knows. I don't think Pollard will play again at Bama but CAG is letting it play out in the legal system rather than turn his back on a player.

I think that this situation is probably a complicated hot mess and Grant is, indeed, letting this play out. I don't think this is cut and dried like the situation with the Skittles 4.

Pollard has withdrawn from school. He is gone as most expected he would be.

"Devonta has endured a very challenging time these past few months due to the legal issues involving him and his family," Grant said in the statement. "Our primary concern is and has always been his well-being and doing what is in his best interest. In light of the issues at hand, we felt it best to allow him the time he needed to focus solely on family without having to address his status as a student-athlete. In a recent meeting with Devonta, he informed me that he and his family have decided that he needs to withdraw from The University of Alabama so that he can be closer to his family during this difficult time. Devonta has my full support with his decision. It was a pleasure coaching him this past season.

Momma is in the slammer without bail, so I hope he has an older brother, sister, uncle or someone to give this kid some real guidance.

This just a bad, sad, story. I am not sure how you ruin a kids' chance at education and a career. RTR!
