Title: Trevor Lacey Has Picked the Team He is Transferring To
Post by: Marshal Dillon on June 18, 2013, 10:18:20 PM
Not surprising, Lacey is spitting in the Tide's face if you ask me.

When reports broke two weeks ago that Trevor Lacey was headed to North Carolina State, it only seemed a matter of time before it would become official. At the time, Lacey denied that he was a done deal to the Wolfpack.

However, sources informed CBSSports.com that the Alabama transfer sent his papers in on Monday afternoon and is officially heading to NC State.

He may just drag them down.

Grant had good things to say about him, and he made it seem like his parents were really pushing him to transfer.

It's unclear why he left a Crimson Tide team with NCAA tournament aspirations, but Alabama coach Anthony Grant told the Birmingham News in April that Lacey and his parents appeared to want a fresh start in hopes it might help him fully tap into his potential.
"It will give him the opportunity to try and figure some things out," Grant told the newspaper. "I think there are some things over the course of his two years here that he and I talked about in terms of what he needed to do to put himself in position to be where he is capable of being. Hopefully a change will give him the opportunity to realize some of those things and become what his family would like to see him become and certainly what he wants to become."

Well, I have no idea why he would want to leave a program like had, but I wish him all the best in all his process. Let him know that we pray for him and want him to remain safe. Some times family doesn't pick so well and this may be one of those times. God Bless and be safe. RTR!

I have no good will for Lacy. It sounds a little harsh, but he put himself above the other players, coaches, and program to maybe get himself more headlines, a little selfish I would say. He could have gotten himself NBA ready at Bama if he had dropped a few pounds and worked on his shooting game, he didn't have to transfer to do that.

Everything I have heard and read leads to Lacey's parents wanting him to transfer. They want him to play point guard because they think that is his best bet to get to the NBA. His parents did not feel he was developing as rapidly as he needed to to reach the NBA so they wanted him to transfer.

I found it strange last year Lacey was playing PG often with All-SEC PG Releford playing the #2 guard. IMO the players were out of their natural position. CAG may have been doing this at Lacey's (parents) request.

When Lacey announced he was going to transfer schools did not want him as much as they did his senior year in high school. Kansas and Kentucky were not interested. Those are the schools we originally beat out. It is my understanding NC St and Pitt were the only two bigger schools that showed an interest in him. That tells me two things. 1) Lacey is not as good as advertised. 2) Respect for CAG.

I don't blame Gottifried for signing him. NC St lose a lot last year but Lacey has to sit out a year. My prediction is Lacey will end up in Europe playing ball before he graduates from NC St.

That' why I did not slam Gottfried, even though he has hard feelings about being fired by Bama & has been an horses a** about it. Lacey was a great hs player, but he has not stepped it up in the college ranks.

Are you basing this strictly on your personal observations or have you heard talk among the assistant coaches or been to practice to see his practice habits? Just wondering.

Good observation.  I remember wondering the same thing during the season.

I haven't talked with any of the coaches and I'm not sure just how much the asssistant coaches know about Lacy's issues, CAG is a quiet man. I have talked with different season ticket holders and members of the Tip Off Club and everyone is somewhat po'd about his decision. The biggest majority seems to think that his being on the team was all about himself and not the team, now this opinion was after he left. I have to agree with pmull in that it's no telling what he might have been promised to sign here and Trevor and his parents called CAG's hand last year in trying to make Trevor something that he really wasn't good enough to be, a point guard. On the other hand you might say that CAG lived up to his side of the deal and when Lacy couldn't perform at a level higher than what he is capable, he pulled the old playground trick, I'll take my ball and go home.

CAG has had nothing but bad luck since arriving at Bama. No one can really say that he can coach or not coach because he hasn't had enough players to prove himself yet. I like to watch CAG at the practices that I have attended, he is constantly working individually with the players but the only practices that I have seen are scrimmages. I think he can get the job done if he can get players that are willing to stick it out when going gets tough, maybe it will all start with the incoming players this year.

I think players transferring or otherwise leaving is getting more and more common in college sports, especially hoops.  Coach K said it's not like the old days -- you can't expect to have players stay for 4 or 5 years.  So I hate to see a player like Lacey go, but it's gonna happen.  Look at the number of players transferring into Alabama.

Yes, you are right about the new trend of the transferring of players. I don't see a happy ending for this new trend either, especially for some of the coaches trying to keep their jobs.

I don't think we can keep giving him a "pass" due to bad luck. A lot of times you make your own good or bad luck. He really needs to show some major improvement this year.

Well I don't know any of the answers to the questions, but to me, if a guy does not do his job he kills a coach. Why did they recruit him and why was he not really approved by talk or meeting? I like CNS,if they can put their heart into Alabama then why do we want them, they are going to play very good for us. RTR!
