Title: End Alabama/Tennessee Game-Scarbinsky
Post by: Marshal Dillon on May 23, 2013, 09:27:24 PM
No way would I agree to this. Plus, his "logic" is skewed. There is a place for tradition.

Quote
Les Miles is right.

The SEC football schedule is wrong, and it’s time for the league to do something about it.

Permanent cross-division opponents - or traditional rivals, if you prefer, old-timer - have got to go.

That’s right.

No more Third Saturday in October because it meant something to Bear Bryant and General Neyland. Or South’s oldest rivalry because it featured Bo Jackson and Herschel Walker. Or LSU-Florida because … tell me again why the Tigers and the Gators have to play every year?

Miles certainly would like to know.

Not to go all Sesame Street on you, but one of those things is not like the other. One of those things does not belong.

It’s Alabama-Tennessee.]

Just another reason to be thankful that Scabs works for a failing paper and does not have any real authority in the conference.

I think the decision that it will come down to is losing the permanent divisional matchups or going to 9 conference games.  One of the two is likely to happen, but I don't think both.

I think we are headed to a 9 game SEC schedule it is just a matter of how soon.

I do not want to lose the Tenn game. My concern is there are 14 teams and only two cross-division games that matter to 4 teams. As much as I dislike Auburn they do have a good rivalry with UGA. The majority could win this debate.

Just another pot-stirring article.  He wants to be like Finebaum when he grows up.  Maybe he can get a big ESPN contract some day.

This whole issue is nonsense.  It wasn't too long ago that UT had a streak going against us.  And Les wasn't crying too hard when every SEC opponent had a bye week before Alabama, now was he?  Do these clowns not remember the 2009 UT game?  They almost ruined our perfect season and derailed our national championship.  It took 2 blocked field goals in that game to preserve the win.  It is a rivalry game, and sometimes even an outmatched opponent in a rivalry game can give you problems because of all the emotional energy that is brought to bear.

I have an easy solution though.  Move the roller barn to the east (or even better, Big East) and move UT to the west.

This is exactly what I was thinking when I read the article. The Alabama/UT rivalry has a history of back and forth in win streaks. I can't see swapping UT for the likes of Kentucky, Vandy, Missouri, & S. Carolina (who will fade again when Spurrier retires.)
