Title: Paul Finebaum leaving Birmingham for Charlotte to join ESPN Post by: pmull on May 21, 2013, 09:15:42 PM Birmingham afternoon sports talk radio is terrible. I hate to see Finebaum leave.
Quote In Charlotte, Finebaum will be part of a package that includes a radio program on the ESPN networks, 100 televised appearances annually on ESPN, and a TV simulcast of his radio show on the ESPN-owned SEC Network when it launches in August 2014, the WSJ reported. His new, Charlotte-based radio show will begin airing Aug. 1, according to the WSJ. "It would be the understatement of my life to say I wasn't thrilled," Finebaum said in the WSJ report. "It is incredibly exciting to be part of a new adventure, particularly one that involves the premiere brand in sports along with the pre-eminent conference in sports." http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/05/paul_finebaum_leaving_birmingh.html Title: Re: Paul Finebaum leaving Birmingham for Charlotte to join ESPN Post by: Catch Prothro on May 21, 2013, 09:41:35 PM Odd that his show will be based out of Charlotte. Charlotte? Yeah, that sports mecca.
I suppose it beats the other ESPN broadcasting studios. (Bristol, Connecticut; Miami; New York City; Seattle; Charlotte; and Los Angeles.) You would think ESPN would have a studio in Atlanta. Radio stations in BHM are already angling to get the show, but likely it will end up on ESPN 97.3 The Zone. Title: Re: Paul Finebaum leaving Birmingham for Charlotte to join ESPN Post by: Marshal Dillon on May 22, 2013, 05:50:41 AM Charlotte is the HQ for the whole ESPN SEC Network. So the SEC Network is located in that SEC mecca and college football town of Charlotte? I wonder if they ever heard of Nashville, Birmingham, Atlanta, Memphis, or some other city LOCATED in SEC territory. ??? Title: Re: Paul Finebaum leaving Birmingham for Charlotte to join ESPN Post by: Jamos on May 22, 2013, 07:34:42 PM I think his show will really be missed in our area. I'm just wondering how his leaving will affect the Bama/Auburn rivalry.

I'm just wondering how his leaving will affect the Bama/Auburn rivalry. He will still be on the air in Bham, but it just won't be the same. He won't be 57 miles from T-Town and 90 miles from Auburn, not to mention being in the heart of SEC Land. I will be listening to see how it goes, because he will still be his snarky self and get people fired up. :popcorn2: Title: Re: Paul Finebaum leaving Birmingham for Charlotte to join ESPN Post by: pmull on May 23, 2013, 08:05:18 AM I think his show will really be missed in our area. I hope his show is more guests and interviews and less callers. That's where the true humor, passion, anger, and stupidity happens. Title: Re: Paul Finebaum leaving Birmingham for Charlotte to join ESPN Post by: pmull on May 23, 2013, 12:38:43 PM I think his show will really be missed in our area. Finebaum was able to get big name reviews by himself but ESPN should help him get more. |
