I'd really love to see this kid get his head on straight.  There's a lot of quality football left in him.

What is going on with this kid?  Maybe he needs to get with Saban for some fatherly advice. I don't want to see him ending up in an Alabama prison or sleeping in a gutter as s crack addict.

I hope he gets his head on straight and some team gives him another chance. He needs football more than football needs him.

My guess is that someone pointed out the hand-writing on the wall  that the Ravens were probably going to punish him so he bailed out before they could... :dunno:

Regardless, best of luck to him...

Couldn't have said it better. I really wish this kid could get it together. Not just because of his talent; that will leave him eventually. But just to be a man, he needs to get his act together before worse things happen.

He's only 23 years old. He needs to grow out of making bad decisions.

The ONLY reason he made it to the Pros was because of CNS and staff. This guy certaintly has a lot of physical skills, but he's batting .000 as far as his mentality. As someone mentioned on here earlier, the best thing he can do to help himself is to get as far away from North Alabama and his so called friends and hope and pray that someone like a CNS will come along and befriend him and help him work his way man toward manhood. It's a shame, but it's what he wanted and he did it his way.

Do you think Saban or anyone at Capstone or a former player will reach out to him?

From Mike Florio of NBC Sports.

Quote
One source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the decision to retire was made solely by McClain, with no influence from the team.  McClain, we’re told, wants to focus solely on getting himself together before continuing his football career.  The Ravens have offered to be a resource for McClain during this process, a consideration that likely flows in part from McClain’s connection to Alabama, where G.M. Ozzie Newsome played college football.

Thus, the only way McClain’s NFL story won’t continue will be if his arrest record continues to grow.  But if he can keep himself out of trouble, McClain could indeed be back.  And he’d likely be in Baltimore.

“We’ll see what happens,” the source said.

What could happen is an unlikely story of redemption for a player who, with some maturity, still has plenty of football left in him.

This sounds much better.

 :dunno:

I'm sure Saban wouldn't turn his back on him but for McClain to get help from others, he has to first show that he wants a change in his life and he could start that by trading his street antics for an altar in a good church. He needs to take on an off the field lifestyle of helping others versus hurting others.

Personally I would like to see him start working with youth groups, like being a Big Brother to troubled kids that are looking for someone to help them. It would be a start. Being a role model to a troubled youngster can have a lot of self gratification and this is something positive, something that mcClain needs in a big way.

I came here to post the PFT story, but I see 2Stater has already beat me to it.  That's certainly a more encouraging take to it all.  I hope it works out for Ro...kid has a world of talent he needs to be using.

Unless he has a mentor through this time, I don't hold out much hope for him. If he is left on his own to try and do what it takes to turn his life around and work towards getting back on the field, it likely just will not happen.

I really think he is having so much of personal issues he needs to back off and get his life in order. All the attention and you duh man stuff he can not get things right till he actually humbles himself. RTR!
