Title: Alabama At No. 15 Mississippi State (Friday 6:00 ESPNU)
Post by: pmull on May 03, 2013, 08:36:30 AM
Both teams need to win this series to enhance their NCAA Tournament resumes. Bama is coming off a two game series sweep of Texas A&M. State is reeling after being swept by No 2 Vandy. State has been very good at home.

CMG has changed the weekend pitching rotation. Ace Spencer Turnbull will pitch Game 1. Turnbull is normally the Sunday starter. We have gone 5-1 in SEC on Sunday's when Turnbull starts including a win over No 3 LSU. Turnbull only pitched 1 inning against A&M last week in the Sunday game that got cancelled due to rain. Sullivan will pitch Saturday and Kamplain will start on Sunday.

Rain could be an issue.

Quote
The Alabama Crimson Tide (27-18, 11-9 SEC) will travel to Starkville, Miss., to play three Southeastern Conference games against 15th-ranked Mississippi State (33-13, 10-11 SEC) this weekend. The series begins on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6:04 p.m. CST, from Dudy Noble Field. The series opener will be televised on ESPNU with Tom Hart and Ben McDonald calling the action. Game two will begin at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday and the final game of the series will be at 1:37 p.m. CST, on Sunday and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network with John Sadak and Marlon Anderson calling the game.

I've got my doubts that they get this game in tonight. It's been raining in Mississippi just about all day and it's slowly moving into West Central Alabama. I'm guessing they will play a double header tomorrow since the rain should move out of that area tomorrow morning sometime.

Double-header, THEN a Sunday game?  They should just make it a two game series.

:dunno: What is wrong with a double header on Saturday. That is the typical move for a Friday night cancellation. We have not played a game since last Saturday.

I think it puts Bama at a disadvantage, playing on the road.

Friday night rain outs result in a Saturday double header with two 9 inning games. Saturday rain outs result in a Sunday double header with two 7 inning games. They have been doing it this way for as long as I can remember. Teams on the road are at a disadvantage.

Alabama had a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the 8th. MSU tied the game in the 8th and beat us in the 10th. Tough loss. We need to get a win today and avoid the sweep.

For the second game in a row Alabama losses in extra innings. MSU wins 7-6 in 11 innings. MSU gets the sweep. Bama falls below .500 in SEC play at 11-12.

Alabama is 0-7 in extra inning games this year.

I can't respond to what I don't see or understand but, it seems the way we are losing these games needs to be fixed before next year. Like another poster said, losing in the 10th and 11th innings is bad. Come on guys let's get it on. RTR!
