Title: NFL Adopts Richardson Rule
Post by: Catch Prothro on March 21, 2013, 09:21:37 AM
Rule against RBs lowering their head when getting tackled.  IDK, these guys are already taking a beating, but apparently MFBATR was dishing it out a bit too much.

running back Trent Richardson said his hit that knocked off the helmet of Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Kurt Coleman was apparently Exhibit A for the competition committee in adopting the rule that will penalize backs who lower their heads and lead with the crown of the helmet.

"I feel like I made it bad for all the backs," Richardson told The Cleveland Plain Dealer . "I feel like it's my fault."

The new rule passed 31-1 with only the Cincinnati Bengals voting against it. Many running backs, including Richardson, have voiced their concern with how the rule will be interpreted, something that can lead to a 15-yard penalty and a fine.

But  in the new safety-conscious NFL, Richardson and others had better get used to it, because it doesn't appear to be going away anytime soon.
The NFL isn't safety-conscious.  The owners are just looking to protect themselves from lawsuits.  Has absolutely nothing to do with player safety...IMO.
