Title: Baseball Begins 2013 Campaign on Friday against VMI Post by: Jamos on February 14, 2013, 08:08:44 PM Alabama opens the 2013 season with a three-game series against the Virginia Military Institute this weekend. Game one of the series is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., on Friday night from Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Game two will begin at 2:05 p.m., on Saturday, and first pitch for game three will be 1:05 p.m., on Sunday.

I think pitching will be the strength of the team. We have a lot of arms this year. We got good/adequate starting pitching last year. Late inning relief pitching sucked and cost us several games. Last years freshmen should be better this year. We have to score more runs. We did not hit for average or power last year. It showed up in lack of runs and in the loss column. We are counting on a lot of new guys. CMG needs to show he can coach and develop players. He is on the hot seat IMO. So many times last year costly errors was the difference in some games.

Castilla, Guilbeau, and Kamplain pitched 5 scoreless inning of relief. The bats came alive in the 5th inning with timely hitting. Booth threw out 2 base stealers, VMI had no stolen bases. Need to improve: Gave up 2 unearned runs on an infield error. No long ball hitting.
