Tommy Tuberville is the new head coach at Cincinnati, a Texas Tech.

He will replace Butch Jones, who accepted the head coaching job at Tennessee on Friday. Cincinnati called a 6:30 p.m. ET news conference to introduce Tuberville.

A Texas Tech official said the school was "completely blindsided" by the decision.

He couldn't hold up many fingers at TT.

This is a totally bizarre move. He is a turkey hunting good ole boy and he is now in a large city. What is going on with him?

Probably tired of recruiting prairie dogs, lol! I've never been to Lubbock, but most people I've talked to that have, say it's the pits. I think he is tired of being out-recruited by Oklahoma, Texas, etc. I do think, however, he could have done better than the NNati.

Bizarre.  Tuberville's wife was in a car accident late last year, and the elderly man she hit died early this year.  Maybe they both wanted to get away to anywhere and start over again.   :dunno:

Tubs may do well at Cincy. I think he is an arrogant azz but he was a good enough coach to take advantage of us when we were down. His barn teams played defense and were fundamentaly sound.

I'm betting Texas Tech is holding up 1 finger for him. ;)

Cincinnati is supposedly the opposite of Lubbock, a nice city with lots to do.

And Tommy has coached long enough to know when things aren't going well.  Rather than wait for the hammer to fall, maybe next year, he chose the time of his leaving.

As for Cincy, Tubbs could no longer be better than 50/50 in the SEC or Big12.  During his Cincy press conference, he talked about conference championships and BCS Bowl games -- maybe something he can still do against BigEast competition.

I think you nailed it perfectly. Plus, like someone else said, he may have wanted a change of scenery.
