I guess we need to figure out how many e-creds you get for winning the bowl contest.  I don't remember what we did last year, but since it is almost 4 times as many games, 4 times the e-creds of a normal round seems reasonable.  4 e-creds for each person you beat.  The more people who enter, the bigger the pot will be.

I just entered all my picks to make sure I get them in before the first game starts. We can change our picks along the way as long as we do it before the game starts can't we?

Yes, up until 10 minutes before the time listed under each game.  Once a game has passed the deadline, the form will not show the yes/no option for that game.  It will just show what you selected as text.  The games that are not past the deadline will still have the yes/no option and can be changed.

I have all of mine set to "Yes" right now.  I will go in and change them as needed when we get closer to each game.  It is a little tough to make serious picks for all 35 bowl games in one sitting, especially this far in advance.  But if I get busy and miss the deadline for a game, at least I still have a shot at getting it right.

You can also enter the contest late.  The games that are already past the deadline will count as a tie for you.

So maybe I'd do better just to delete my picks?

I'll be watching. Normally, I would rather watch a rerun of Swamp People than  Arizona vs. Nevada, but something about bowl season makes this different than normal.

I don't feel bad going 1-1 with quick random picks.  Now that I've had time to change some picks, who knows what will happen.

I have started poorly. I thought I has SJS instead odd BGU. I was excited when they covered. Stupid me. I even picked Duke. Lets hope they can keep this going.

I wondered about that BGU score, had to look it up, cause no way were they going to win that game.

But I have Duke too.  Cincinnatti has a short-handed (4 coaches) interim coaching staff of the coaches that Butch Jones didn't take with him to Tennessee.  Tubbs is out recruiting.

Nevertheless, a laughably mediocre ACC team is ripping a new for the Big East co-champs. Turruhble. Jus turrhuhble.

Unbelievable.  A minute to go, and Duke goes from an almost sure win to a 14 point dog.

I'm not gonna even talk about Baylor.  They did us a huge favor, and that's all I have to say about that.

Poor, poor Duke.  The really outplayed Cinci for most of the game.  Hard for any team to overcome two fumbles inside the 10 though.

It is not like they are unaccustomed to losing. LOL

Fixed now.  There will be more of these, and I will just have to fix them afterwards.

I must have had a good day yesterday.  The last time I looked I was 5-7, now I am 8-7.  Maybe my luck is changing.  I have dropped back a game in the overall contest since the bowl games started.

I think it is just fate for me this year.  San Diego State blowing a 4th quarter lead and then getting blown out, Duke surrendering 14 points in the final minute of a game they were about to win, Texas making a big 4th quarter comeback, TCU returner fumbling inside the 5...

I've decided to pick Notre Dame.  That means Bama will clobber them.

In the "I told you so" department, I predicted that picking 15 to 20 games involving crappy and unknown teams, some of which had lost coaches and players after the end of the regular season, some of which would use the game to break in new players and systems, would introduce randomness and chaos into the pickem contest. Of the remaining players, the vast majority sit at 10-9 or 9-10. Though we are all trying to pick the winners, there are more players with statistically unlikely proportions of losses than wins: Only 2 above 10-9 and nearly half below 9-10. X, SC, and Bama 57, all in the top 5 of the regular season, are at 8-11. Tidewest, bless his heart, is at 6-13.

On the bright side, the contest has caused me to watch some interesting games that I wouldn't have watched otherwise. CMB may have saved his job in the last Q of the game against OSU.Ditto for the MSUn coach. And during the Ohio v. LaMonroe game I spent some time thinking about how much it sucks to be Arky: D2 team that beats them gets prison-r****ed by a Mac school.

Anyway, the real bowl season begins tomorrow. Anybody notice that the SEC don't play no games before New Years Eve? Let the carnage begin.

I got skiddish over the spread in the Purdue game and came off OSU 5 min before gametime. Pro move, huh?

I changed my pick--same reason--about 45 minutes before KO.

Also the UGA-NEB score is reversed.

Hey SC, something funky going on with the bowl scores. The last three finals for today are all wrong. The program has MSU winning and UGA and USCe losing. SIAP.

The scores are fixed now.

It looks like 3 more games will have this issue:

Oregon/Kansas State
Kent State/Arkansas State
Notre Dame/Alabama

The root cause of the problem is ESPN.  They have the home/away teams switched on a lot of the games.  For example, they have Alabama listed as the home team when it should be Notre Dame.  When the score updates come in, the message that WALL-E gets looks something like "the home team has 28 points now".  Since the teams are switched WALL-E puts the 28 points down for the real home team, not the home team that ESPN has listed.  I will know better next year and will make sure our home team matches ESPN, even if it is wrong.  Or maybe have some code to detect this and watch out for it so we can keep the listed home team correct on our contest.

I could fix this now, but I would have to switch everyone's picks on the games that are messed up.  I don't want to take a chance on messing up someone's picks so I just wait until the game is over and then put in the correct score.  This updates the contest to the correct result too.  So there is a little while from the time the game ends until I fix the score where the results are wrong.  I know it is annoying, but it would be even more annoying if I messed up the picks that everyone entered.  Even if I didn't mess up the picks, I introduce the possibility that someone could get confused and think that I messed up their pick and there would be no good way for me to double check.

I just figured out an easy way to make this a little better.  I figured out a way to turn off the automatic score updates for just the remaining 3 games that are going to be wrong.  So now those 3 games will not have a score listed at all until I go in and update it manually.  It does no good to have real time score updates for these games if they are going to be incorrect.  I've gotten spoiled this year with all of the automatic score updates, but the manual entry is actually the way I did it last year.

I just finished double checking all of the bowl game scores and everything is correct.  I will WALL-E hand out the prizes.  I think I said that the bowl round will count for 4 times as many e-creds as a normal round since there were almost 4 times as many games.  The easiest way for me to do this will just have WALL-E give out the normal e-creds 4 times in a row.  This will show up as 4 different posts from WALL-E, but hopefully it won't be too confusing.

This is for the Bowl Games.  I will do the overall round separately once I go back and see how many e-creds we gave out last year.
