Title: Time Capsule 1974
Post by: SUPERCOACH on April 12, 2011, 04:00:10 PM
I came up with the idea of a time capsule thread at lunch today.  I've never seen this on a forum before, but it seems like it could be fun.  This one will be for 1974.  So post any images, videos, music, article clippings, magazines, etc. that happened in 1974.  Feel free to tell personal stories as well.  Maybe once this topic gets to be a couple of pages long we can start a new one for a different year.  Anybody can start a new one at any time, I just don't want to have a whole bunch of these going with hardly anything in them, so let's pace ourselves.

In 1974, the U.S. had a super outbreak of tornadoes.  The worst in history.

This month marks the 25th anniversary of the April 3-4, 1974, super tornado outbreak. It was the worst tornado outbreak in U.S. history with 148 twisters touching down in 13 states. Before it was over 16 hours later, 330 people were dead and 5,484 were injured in a damage path covering more than 2,500 miles.

Bama went undefeated in 1974, then lost to the Irish in the Orange Bowl. But, hey, that was 1975.

What a great idea for a thread!   #+

@ 2Stater:  There you go....that's my second favorite movie of all time.  Godfather (Part 1) being my favorite, of course.

In the year 1974,  Richard M. Nixon became the first and only president to resign while in office.

(A little known fact was that a Crimson Phoenix was a semi-accomplice used by G. Gordon Liddy during the Watergate break in.)

Makes you wonder whatever became of he/she?  Hmmmm???   :P

"Mama" Cass Elliot died in 1974. Rumor had it that she choked to death on a ham sammich.

I remember that about Cass.  But it was one of those urban legends going around.  Pretty sure it was a heart attack.

'Course, it could have been brought on by the cost of the ham sammich in San Francisco!   8)

Well if she bought the sammich in San Fran, but didn't eat it til she got to London, that would explain the choking.

It was clearly a case of traveling through different time zones.  She was heading east, and attempted to swallow at 1:25 p.m. Unfortunately, she'd already crossed a time zone, so she was really still on her first chew at 12:25 p.m.

Really.   8)
Now, had she been going west, no problem.

Great movie! It was all poking fun of racism when racism was fading. Too bad there are those that have brought it back to the forefront . That movie, if made today would crucify Mel Brooks.
