Quote
Alabama hasn’t had a player suspended for an illegal hit, but that doesn’t mean Nick Saban isn’t struggling with the Southeastern Conference’s emphasis on helmet-to-helmet hits.

The SEC already has suspended Ole Miss defensive back Trae Elston and South Carolina defensive back D.J. Swearinger for a game each.

Saban said league officials came to Tuscaloosa and met with the Alabama team to explain various rules, including the emphasis on hits to the head.

“Hitting somebody in the head, or leading with the head, either way — no matter what you hit them in the head with — are going to be things that we just can’t tolerate,” Saban said. ...

Seems I remember being much more concerned with my testicles.  :-\

Glad you clarified it.  I assumed that's what you meant.  Anybody who played had that same concern.  There's a frightning vision when CNS says,

“Hitting somebody in the head, or leading with the head, either way..."

We'll get new uniforms that resemble a individual serving "bounce house"!

If I had to pick the first Bama player to get flagged for the hit, it would be Vinnie Sunseri. Hopefully it won't happen but he plays with a lot of intensity, especially on special teams.

True.  I'm sure the officials played video of VS during the Summer-SEC-Officiating RETREAT in Hoover.  :wall:

I understand why they are doing this, because head injuries are serious, much more so than they used to be, and evrything that can be done to counter it should be done. However, as Adrian said, sometimes its hard to control. I know that proper tackling says you put your facemask in the ball-carrier's numbers, but so many players nowadays run with their heads paralell to the ground. It's impossible to do a form tackle in such a situation, and helmet to helmet is inevitable. I guess the powers that be are oding the best they can, but I still don't like it.

You are right about that.  That is a bigger problem to me since it can easily break your neck.  They need to throw some flags on the offensive guys when they do that in my opinion.

head injuries are certainly something we have to pay attention to, but when I played football it was the pile ups that were most dangerous. You never knew what you was going to come out of a pile up with. gouged eyes, somebody would bite you, this sort of thing and others. RTR!

Admit it... you where the one doing the gouging now weren't you?
