Quote
Jalston Fowler is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury, UA coach Nick Saban said Monday, and the junior from Prichard will undergo surgery to repair damage sustained in the fourth quarter of the Crimson Tide's 35-0 win over Western Kentucky Saturday.

Replacing Fowler, however, is apparently a job for many.

Fowler had been used in multiple roles through two games this season, from backup running back, to various special teams assignments, to the Crimson Tide's primary fullback as a lead blocker in the I-formation. Saban indicated Monday that such versatility can't be replaced by a single player.

"We have backups at every one of the positions and roles that he filled. There may not be one particular guy," Saban said....

Brent Callaway would have been a likely candidate but he got banged up as well Saturday and I'm not sure of what his status is. Kelly Johnson is another that could get some playing time there. We must remember that some of the defensive players were once offensive players but was moved to the defensive side of the ball.

Who knows how this will turn out but I've got a lot of faith in CNS and staff to find a good solution for it.

I thought I heard CNS say in the presser that everybody with the exception of Fowler would be ready Saturday.

It could be, you never know about the extent of injuries from CNS until game day. :dunno:

I was wondering about Calloway (correct spelling), and I hadn't heard that he was injured.  He would seem a logical replacement.  This injury was a big loss, but just like we had to move on without Hightower in 2009 (after he was cut by an Arky blocker), we've got to move ahead now.  We have the talent to replace Jalston, but nobody does it all as well as him!

Fowler will be missed in a big way and you are right, no one else on the team can do it like he could. I can't be sure of the Calloway injury but I think it was labeled as a stinger.

well like Saban said it will be a bunch of players to replace one.

Kelly Johnson will probably get FB in the I formation reps if we even use it anymore,

Calloway will get some of the RB/H back reps i would think, but this could also be a TE that we havent really talked about.

Bama will be OK but Fowler really brought another level to the RB position that Bama simply doesnt have. Lacy is the biggest Back now.

Who of us wouldn't love to see Jesse at fullback in the I in goalline situations?
