Title: Media’s idea of last year’s team
Post by: SeniorTSM on August 22, 2012, 02:45:04 PM
Most media I have heard talk about last year’s team point to the lost against LSU and how Alabama stunned LSU in an upset for the National title.
I watched the first game and I would say LSU did nothing In that game that made them a clear cut better team, taking nothing away from LSU they were a very good team last year, but I think it is a disservice to the 2011 team to say they got lucky against LSU and that it was Les that made no adjustments or excuses that the QB controversy was the reason they lost.
Bama’s D last year was by far one of the best in CFB history, and they shut down LSU, in both games for the most part.
My main point here is that the first game was a tell tell sign that if Bama played well they were going to beat LSU, which they did in the second game.

Alabama played a horrible game in November and lost to the next best team in the country by 3 in OT.  No doubt Alabama should've won that game.  It was somewhat of an anomaly that every time we got inside the 40 we completely shot ourselves in the foot.  It wasn't (all) due to LSU's D.

Alabama was easily the best team in the country last year.  Coaches Saban and Smart have both said that Alabama left the first game knowing that they were the better team.

If they had been a clear cut better team, I think LSU would have been favored in the NC game instead of Bama.

LSU started moving the ball against us late in the Nov game.  They were getting the corners.  Watch the second half of the 4th quarter.

Barrett Jones' hip pointer probably cost us the game.  With him we were able to pound them.  Without him healthy, we couldn't.

Regardless, hscoach is right; given enough time to prepare, everyone except Cajuns knew Alabama would win.  There was an excellent article in SI just before the game.  They had it figured ("throw to the H-back and stop the option").  They were RIGHT ON.

The media was high on LSU after they beat us in T-Town. Leading up to the BCSCG they were even taking about a split championship if we won. After the 21-0 beat down we put on LSU everything I have heard is positive about us. Now the other conferences did try to start the conference champion only in the 4 team playoff thing but that was more respect for the SEC than a slam at us.
