It is a different argument for a different day as to whether UA could have more such opportunities. In this case, a scholarship was there and it is hard to imagine a more appropriate use of it than the one which Nick Saban chose. Tinker's story grew from the common characteristics of most successful walk-ons - dogged determination, steady optimism and abundant patience. Imagine, 20 years from now Tinker can tell his kids he got a scholarship from Coach Nick Saban to play football at Alabama. Plus, that scholarship from Vandy is probably worth at least $50,000 for the year. Carson Tinker will have more college stories to tell than most Heisman Trophy winners. He was a 4 year starter at Alabama. He played in front of crowds of over 100,00. He won 2 (maybe 3) national championships. His tragic tornado story. He accepted an award on behave of his teammates on national TV and gave a speach. He has already played two BCSCG and one Capital One bowl. To top it all off his Dad knocked over the crystal football and broke it.
