Thanks for nothing, Fox:

Yes, the Alabama defense put up a historic season, but that’s partly because it faced offenses that ranked 119th in the country (Kent State), 114th (Ole Miss), 105th (Florida), 104th (Tennessee), 100th (Auburn), 98th (Vanderbilt), 96th (North Texas), 95th (Penn State), 86th (LSU) and 84th (Mississippi State).

Ask LSU if our defense was good enough!!

Preseason No. 4 is fine with me. We have a big enough target on our back already. All we need to do is win and the polls will take care of themselves.

So how is Alabama going to handle actually having to play against real, live offenses like Michigan’s, Arkansas’, Missouri’s, Tennessee’s (the passing game is going to rock) and Texas A&M’s?

They make it sound like Alabama's offense will struggle to score while other teams O will run wild. Have these guys not been watching Saban's defenses and didn't see our offense handle the great LSU D with relative ease?

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

Here we go again.  Every year we hear about how SEC defenses can't possibly stop a "real" offense, and yet every year the SEC wins the national championship.

I think they have it backwards.  The gimmicky Mickey Mouse offenses are the ones that run into a buzz saw when they play a real defense.  Those offenses put up big numbers during the season because they play in conferences that don't bother to field an opposing defense.  The first time they encounter a tough, fundamentally sound defense where everyone knows their assignments and will hit you in the mouth, they crumble and in some cases barely make it out of the game alive (looking at you Michigan State, Texas too for that matter).  It is easy to run wild in an essentially open field, but much harder to do so when you are laying on your backside with your mouth bleeding.

As for the stats, every single one of those teams that were listed would have MUCH better offensive stats if they didn't have to factor in the results of the Bama game into their averages.  LSU, for example, had pretty much no problem whatsoever "running wild" over Oregon, WVU, and everyone else they played.  In the first game they managed a couple of field goals and were lucky to get out of Tuscaloosa with a win, and in the rematch they managed absolutely nothing.  They didn't even manage to cross midfield until late in the game, and when they did they were so discombobulated that they went backwards for the next 3 or 4 plays and then fumbled the football back to us at the 50.  9 points in 2 games will really skew your offensive stats.

^THIS^

Oregon's mighty offense didn't look so potent against LSU, or even the Barn's weak D.

#+, you have hit the nail on the head. I think we will have a great year with the Offense. I also think CNS is going to put a defense on the field that will strangle Offenses. Nico and CJ with Dickson and Adrian Hubbard my Lord what else could you want! RTR!

Most of those offensives are not going to be ranked as high because they play in a conference that actually plays defense.

How do idiots like this get jobs as actual sportswriters? Saban's defenses have already shut down such great offenses as Clemson, Va Tech, Texas, and Arkansas (multiple times), and as others have said, LSU's D shut down Oregon and W Va last year. Not to mention Auburn's pitiful defense shutting down Oregon in 2010. How many times does the SEC need to shut these offenses down before these idiots stop saying stupid stuff like this? Look at what the Gamecocks did to Clemson last year and what Georgia's D did to Ga Tech. No one, and I mean no one will have success against a legitmate SEC defense unless the NCAA starts getting like the NFL and making it impossible to play defense.
