Title: How the 12th game manipulated college football
Post by: Jamos on July 30, 2012, 06:09:39 AM
The 12th game turns 7 years old as a permanent part of college football. If the idea was to schedule Jackson State, Troy, South Alabama and Middle Tennessee, as Mississippi State does in 2012 to be bowl eligible, the 12th game works marvelously.

The large schools with huge budgets need 7 home games each year minimum. The 12th game gave everyone a chance to play a big game each year if they wanted too. Alabama has done a good job of making that game a neutral site game except for the Penn State series. I miss playing Southern Miss each year. That was not a big game but it was not a cupcake either. Southern Miss got tired of playing us on the road. It is hard to schedule good teams that do not require return visits. I hate the cupcake games. How can you get excited about Western Kentucky, Florida Atlantic and Western Carolina.

I wasn't excited about Monroe and Northern Illinois. Disaster lurks around the corner with these pushovers.
