Title: Hear Bryant and other legends talk about Bama's switch to wishbone
Post by: kd2011 on July 18, 2012, 04:24:48 PM
In the history of Alabama football, few events loom as large as Alabama's secret switch to the wishbone offense in the summer of 1971. The Tide was coming over two straight five-loss seasons, and many were questioning whether Coach Bryant had lost his touch. Join us for the latest Time Capsule podcast on Crimson Replay, where you can hear the voices of Bryant, Texas coach Darrell Royal (who taught him the offense), and USC coach John McKay (who was fooled by Alabama's new attack.)

I was at my grandparents house in Hattiesburg, Ms, the night of the Bama - USC game.. My grandfather was a huge Alabama fan, also. We tried all night to pick the game up on the radio, without success. When we found out Bama had beaten USC 17-10 the next morning, my grandfather and I were grinning from ear to ear. I don't think I had ever seen him happier than he was at that moment.

great stories 2 and KD

that was a great time in Alabama history
I had my suitcase packed to head to Tuscaloosa
after those two bad seasons I figured I could sneak off from
Coach Riley long enough to catch the eye of one of the football coaches ...
but it wasn't in the stars , glad it worked out for the football team though !

RTR to the wishbone !!!!!   #+
