Title: "Notre Dame confirms Orange Bowl discussions with ACC" Post by: Chechem on July 10, 2012, 06:15:37 AM http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/09/notre-dame-confirms-discussing-orange-bowl-agreement-with-acc/
Quote “Since the development of the new plan for post-season football, the ACC and Notre Dame have had discussions relating to the Orange Bowl,” spokesman John Heisler said in the statement. “While presidents have been consulted, the discussions have been between ACC conference staff and [athletic director] Jack [Swarbrick].” Title: Re: "Notre Dame confirms Orange Bowl discussions with ACC" Post by: 2Stater on July 10, 2012, 07:45:26 AM Attaboy, Notre Dame! Way to set that bar really high. What's funny is I don't think ND can beat upper level ACC (seems like an oxymoron) teams. And what if ND stinks the season up, as they are prone to do, do they still go to the Orange Bowl with a 4-8 record?
Title: Re: "Notre Dame confirms Orange Bowl discussions with ACC" Post by: pmull on July 10, 2012, 08:18:44 AM The Orange Bowl should be talking and looking at all their options. They would be crazy to lock in with the ACC and ND. Why not wait and see who is the best available teams. The ACC and ND should still be available.
I don't mind the Rose Bowl locking in with the Big 10 and PAC 12. They have a long history together. After that I think the bowls need to be open to take the best teams and match up they can get. The college bowl season/playoff is changing just as fast as conference realignments. This is bizarre and shows the arrogance of Notre Dame in assuming they should go to a major bowl every year. I bet they get the bid even if they go 8-4 on the season. What a come down for the Orange Bowl. The SEC and Big12 have locked into another bowl. That leaves the ACC, BigEast, and the smaller conferences. With the Playoff format, the traditional bowls might not be getting the same BCS teams, so it makes sense to look beyond the BigEast. And while we all know that ND sucks and is overrated, they fill stadiums and bring fans.I don't mind the Rose Bowl locking in with the Big 10 and PAC 12. They have a long history together. The team the SEC sends to the Capital One Bowl (3rd place SEC) is usually better than ND and Big East teams. Last year Arky went to the Cotton Bowl with a 10-2 record. IMO they were the 3rd best team in the nation. The bowls are all trying to lock up a big name team but the bowl system will do itseft in if the games are no good. |
