It would be less speculation if everything last year remained the same, except Oregon beat USC and Stanford and won the PAC12, with its only loss to LSU. Looking strictly at those two teams, it is possible that Oregon would have gotten the nod over Alabama for the BCS title game, even though Bama was the better team and played LSU much better than did Oregon. That's because the computers seem to favor offensive teams, and because of regional bias away from an all-SEC championship.
Doing away with the "what ifs," the truth is that the stars aligned for Bama last year, and it was given the deserved opportunity to prove its superiority on the field. After the BCSCG, no one was claiming that Bama did not deserve its championship. |
