The University of Alabama men’s basketball team will look to continue a successful start to a five-game home stand this afternoon when it hosts Appalachian State at Coleman Coliseum.

The Crimson Tide (7-3) used the first game of the home stand to experiment with its lineup in a 69-49 win over Stillman on Friday that saw five different players score in double figures.

Thanks for the reminder. Plus, some good news about 2 players. I was worried about Tarrant.

“We elected to hold out Ricky Tarrant and Rodney Cooper tonight just from a rest standpoint, just to get them physically off their legs. I felt like that was the best thing for the team and it was nothing more than that.

App St leads 29-27 at the half. Very sloppy 1st half. Bama needs to play better in the 2nd half and put App St away early.

FT   6/8
Blocks 4  (ASU 0)
TO 9  (ASU 6)

Tide 60-59  ASU has ball for last shot chance with 3.5 seconds left.

Tide plays great D to make ASU take a bad shot. Tide wins 60-59.

A poor uninspired effort by Alabama but we got the win survived. It was ugly and painful to watch but it beats the heck out of losing.

I have huge concerns about this team. We have struggled against W. Carolina (4-8) & Appalachian State (3-6). We have looked bad in other games, especially in rebounding & perimeter defense. Unless some things change dramatically, it's going to be a long, sad season.

Some Positives:

Kessens had a huge game with 17 points & 9 rebounds. If he continues like this, it will make an impact on the entire team.
Levi had 14 points, 4 rebounds, & 5 assists. Good all around game.
Tarrant had 11 points, 2 rebounds, & 3 assists and continues to provide energy and solid play for the team.
Jimmy Taylor had 7 blocks and is a presence under the basket on D.
After having 8 turnovers in the first half, they had just 3 in 2nd half.

It wasn't a pretty game to watch if you were rooting for Bama but I have to give Appalachian State some credit, they have good shooters on their team and play hard tough basketball. By the way they played against Bama tonight, I'm surprised they've only won 3 games. Bama did not shoot well again tonight but I have to give the team credit, when the game was on the line at the end they played good tough basketball. Bama would have lost this game last year, they are improving and are they where they need to be at this time of the season, no, but wins like tonight will make them a better team. There are a lot of positives happening with the team right now and the stats of the game tonight will prove that. I don't care if they win the rest of their games by one point, a win is a win.
