Title: Tide has much to celebrate, but it doesn't share SEC title
Post by: ssmith general on March 06, 2011, 05:14:02 AM
"TUSCALOOSA - Though invitations to the Big Dance that is the NCAA tournament won't go out for another week, a little dance took place Saturday afternoon on the Coleman Coliseum floor.

With the pep band blaring the fight song followed by "Party Like a Rock Star," Alabama players huddled jubilantly and busted out some slick moves previously unseen as they celebrated a 65-57 victory over Georgia."

Title: Cecil Hurt - Will the Tide Make the Dance?
Post by: ssmith general on March 06, 2011, 05:17:55 AM
"TUSCALOOSA | The game was over and an undefeated home season had been completed, but the University of Alabama basketball players didn't want to relinquish the Coleman Coliseum floor so quickly.

So they danced.

"I think Jason Carter is the best (dancer)," JaMychal Green laughed after the game, and the dance recital, had ended. "He has invented his own walk, so I vote for him."

No one asked what Carter's routine was called, but it might be dubbed "The Trite But Unavoidable Metaphor Shuffle."

In other words, the Crimson Tide was dancing. But will they be Dancing?"

Thanks for the post.  It'd be a real bummer to be left out, but the loss to Ole Miss really hurt our chances.  It's possible that games elsewhere may seal our fate.  Other bubble teams, like Virginia Tech who knocked off Duke, probably punched their tickets* by winning.  That hurts our chances.

We'll need to win at least one more game, and maybe two.  But it's not supposed to be easy to get invited to the Dance.

So, we fell behind 13-5 AGAIN?  What's with the slow starts?  And Davis hit the 3's this game (at home), and acknowledged that it's "all mental".  At least they won, so they got to dance.  Sounds like a fun finale to the home season.  Sorry I missed it.

I fell asleep and missed the end.  But they looked good and aggressive the part I saw.

20 wins, undefeated at home, western division champs.  I just dont see how you leave them out.  Plus, and I am sure they don't consider this at all, but we have a lot of fans also.

With an RPI of 90 going into Saturday, Alabama (20-10) desperately needed a victory over Georgia, whose RPI was around 35. Even this win may not be enough, although the Tide’s case is compelling if you can look past that RPI.

The Tide has lost four times since Christmas. An SEC division champion has never been denied an NCAA tourney bid with 10 league wins or more. Alabama is 12-4.

Georgia coach Mark Fox was asked if Alabama is an NCAA team.

“Yeah, I think they are,” Fox replied.

Thank you, Mr. Fox.

The only real problem is the bean counters* among the selection committee.  An RPI of 90 hurts mucho.

Woooooooooah.  The earth shook with that merge.
Reminds me of a dark night in Costa Rica a few years back, when an earthquake rattled the windows and set off the dogs barking throughout the night.

It's great there, especially in the mountains.  People ("Ticos") are friendly and hard-working folks, and I enjoy the bird watching.  Plenty there to do too, from bicycles to zip lines.  You'd get your building put up there for a few hundred dollars (and you could sit with fresh coffee and watch).
