How will Alabama's defense compare to vaunted 2009 unit?

To say the 2011 Alabama defense will be good isn't good enough. Everybody wants to know how great it can be.

As great as the 2009 defense that led the Crimson Tide to a national championship? That defense was compared to the greatest defenses in school history, but the 1961 and 1992 defenses still seem to stand above.

For me it is to early to make the comparisions by player or by team. There is no reason to think that the defense will not be as good or better.

The 2009 defense made the stops on third down and got off the field. They played phyiscal and brought it on every play with a high level of confidence.

One things for sure. The season will answer these questions and more and it'a almost here.

To compare the two defenses at this point is not fair but it is fun to look at. All we can really said about the 2011 defense at this point is the potential is there for a great year.

Comparing the starters, particularly on the DL is quite misleading, IMO.  We're probably deeper this year on the line than we were in '09.  Also should be deeper in the secondary.

I know the 09 defense showed how to play 60 minutes. Blocks of Tenn. kicks and push LSU into a loss for them. We have to see this defense get off the field against SEC teams and then we can truly judge this defense. Our hearts are with the now team but it will be hard to out perform the 09. RTR!
