Actually, the University of Miami is in Coral Gables, an upscale town southwest of Miami. The airport is nearby, too. It's sort of a yuppyish kind of town, like Homewood. I was there for a few days while my son was going through a pre-college experience at Miami. It was a chance for high school senoirs to see what college is all about, live in the dorms and actually took a couple of classs for credit. He was there for 3 weeks. I stayed at the Holiday Inn directly across from the university. He really liked it, but he ended up attending another college.

The last time I was in Miami was on business about 3 years ago. I was sitting at the bar enjoying a drink with the bartender and another patron while waiting for my flight. During the conversation, I learned that the bartender was Cuban and the patron was Venezuelan. As many bar conversations do, the talk turned to politics. Obama was running for president at the time and I was bending their ear complaining what might happen to the U.S. if he was elected. The bartender looked at me and said "you know, we have Castro". The Venezuelan said "and we have Chavez". I responded, "well, I guess that makes me a whiny little b**** now doesn't it". Of course they cracked up while I was picking the crow from my teeth.

Fun story.  Yes, it's a small world.  And we hardly have any legitimate gripes compared to them.
