Title: Dareus the #1 pick in the draft?
Post by: MDB Tide Roll on March 12, 2011, 01:09:27 PM
That's where Mayock has him now.

He has Julio 7th and Mark 16th.

Wow that shows his pick has 2 Alabama players before Fairley. I see his #1 status didn't last through the combines. I guess more class issues? RTR!

First or not, whoever gets him wins.  That is a bad dude.

There is a lot of focus on physical performance at the combine, but a player's knowledge of the game is also explored.  Ole Nick F ain't got it.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope he goes to Denver, they have a budding team & a 3-4 already in place, he would be a lot more effective in a 3-4 & he would have Elvis Dumervil coming off the end, their front 7 is already pretty good

Good points, Tox. #

But Denver picks second, barring trades.  Saw just now that the Mock Draft has Dareus first too.

yeah that's the rumor that Ron Rivera sees a young William "Fridge" Perry in Dareus (he was Perry's DL coach in Chicago & Perry was an all pro DT)

but i still really hope Carolina takes Da'Quan Bowers, just think Dareus will have more of an impact in Denver

"With their first pick, the Carolina Panthers select MARCEL DAREUS, running back, Alabama."

I'm not a big Carolina fan but I'd become one if Dareus goes to them!

Me too.  ALSO, since we seem to get LOTS of Tennessee (Titans) games now INSTEAD OF THE SAINTS, hopefully some Alabama players will go there.  I'm sick of watching the Titans lose with lesser (i.e., non-Bama) players.

Well not to bad. He is good if he don't juggle the ball. RTR!

Well I am a Falcons fan. I will pull for though unless they play Atlanta. RTR!

Dareus is a lock to go in the top 3.  All 3 need DL help in a big way, especially the Broncos and Bills who were the worst two rushing Ds in the league last year.

The panthers have lots of needs but getting help on the DL and finding a big, time WR to take pressure off of an aging Steve Smith are at the top.

I think Bowers may be there #1 choice as they still need a long-term replacement for losing Peppers, but his injury concerns may make him less attractive.

If so, they go the DT route and Dareus beats out Fairley simply due to attitude, intelligence, consistent performance in 3 years of SEC football, better size and technique. Also, I bet the Panthers staff will still put some emphasis on a Sal Sunseri coached and recommended player.

If they opt for the WR to help out their QB play, I think Jones or AJ may wind up the #1 pick (advantage Jones due to physical advantage and team first attitude; Carolina is a run to set-up the throw style of offense and with a ? at QB it could frustrate a guy like AJ who is used to being the star).

I'd love for MD to get the pick as I think he is a great player and individual who has truly worked hard to get to where he is at.  Plus, producing a #1 overall pick is just one more tool our staff can use during their recruiting pitches.

Kudos to MD. I don't recall him being projected that high before the combines,so he only helped himself. Who knows what his stats would have been had he been healthier earlier, and not suspended for BS. Barring major injury,I think he plays in NFL for long time. While he had many good plays I will always remember him for the pick 6 against longhorns
