Volunteer Info About Hackleburg or Phil Campbell

Well, I'm going to head towards Hackleburg Thursday. I have a couple of numbers I'm going to call and see who needs what, where. I have my pickup truck, ATV 4WD, trailer, several tools, heavy duty wheelbarrow, chains, buckets, etc. I have a little bit of everything, but I'll probably do clean up work.

I forgot to mention my trip to the Hackleburg area on Thursday (May 5). Hackleburg is in Marion county and had at least 15 people killed during the tornadoes. The populaiton was around 1700. Once I got to Hamilton, I contacted a volunteer fireman for the Shiloh Volunteer Fire Dept. Shiloh is a rural community in Marion couty and they lost 4 people in the storm. I drove to their station with a load of clothes from my wife, batteries, manual can opener, and I made a donation to the fire station. Three women were at the station collecting and/or handing out canned foods, clothing, dishes, plates, etc. They were expecting a semi-truck of supplies later in the afternoon. I then left and went to Hackleburg and was pleasantly surprised to see a large contingen of people and groups there. This included the National Guard, State Troopers, Alabama Dept of Transportation, Alabama Power, and volunteers, including a church group from one of my niece's church in Falkville. I had my 4WD ATV on a trailer I was pulling and I used it driving over the site delivering supplies, dragging stuff, helping anyway I could. Basically, the town is wiped out. I think ony 3 businesses were left somewhat intact, a BBQ place, auto parts store and one other. I drove out of town and for about 3 miles all you saw was forests which had been destroyed. The area is just one huge disaster site. Very sad.

Yeah, channel 33/40 here in the Ham organized a huge volunteer effort for today in Hackleburg, so I expect a giant turnout was in Hackleburg/Marion County today.

last word i heard was no law enforcement volunteers to be turned downed at any of these areas.
