Alabama had dropped four straight series openers despite limiting its opponents to four runs or less in three of those four games.

So Tide coach Mitch Gaspard challenged Alabama during a meeting Friday prior to the first game of its weekend series vs. Auburn Friday night.

The Tide responded, beating the Tigers, 6-2, in securing its first Friday victory since March 31.

Actually I think Gaspard's biggest problems are his assistants. In most cases when a coach is on the "hot seat" he immediately makes a few changes in his staff to impress on the "powers to be" that he is trying to right the ship. In Gaspard's case though he just keeps bailing the water from his sinking ship with a gallon bucket instead of making some changes and the water is coming in much faster than he can bail it.

We finally got Bramblett some runs. He has pitched well as the Friday night starter this year. The problem is most SEC teams have their ace on the mound in series openers and runs are hard to come by. The barn starter only lasted 2 innings and we got to the pen early.

Andy Phillips needs to be replaced. He is not a good hitting instructor and a pizz poor third base coach.

We have a chance to finish the SEC season strong. We have 2 more against cellar dweller Auburn. Next week we go to Arkansas who has struggled all season. We do finish against one of the league's best teams in South Carolina but it is at home where we have played well this year.
