I realize that a number of you, like us, when we were on TS shared your sorrow over your loss of a beloved pet.

This is a neat story that should touch your hearts and the hearts of all animal lovers:  http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/2011/01/letters-from-heaven/

We own the book "Dog Heaven" shown in this blog.  We first saw it in the waiting room of UT Small Animal Hospital when our border collie had massive surgery about 10 years ago.  We ordered it as soon as we returned home and have given it to friends who have lost pets.
Cynthia has also written one for Cats too.

Wow.  What a post.

I'm a dog lover and need to go hug mine now.  I just posted a sad thread about former CNN Sports anchor Nick Charles on the General Discussion page.

I need some Kleenex for sure now.   Sad

A couple of years ago, we had to put our Boxer down for seizures that couldn't be controlled.  Don't know who cried harder, us or the
Vet.  I fully expect to meet her at the Rainbow Bridge.

And here is the beautiful poem.

Rainbow Bridge Poem

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Here's another good article about Patrick.  He was ready for Rainbow Bridge, but defied the odds.

I haven't owned a pet in 30 years because their life span is short and it hurts too bad to have one buried. All 3 of my daughters have dogs, 5 total. For my youngest daughter's 23rd birthday, I drove to BFE, Ga. to get her a Min-Pin that her 2 sisters pitched in to buy her. I fell in love with that puppy during the drive to P'cola. Several months later, a 10 year old boy took a baseball bat to "Gracie" and critically wounded her. The vet told my daughter that Gracie would not make it through the night and needed to be put down. My daughter refused and asked the vet to let her stay with Gracie that night. Gracie survived the night and the vet & staff called it an absolute miracle. We all cried much during that night. It's been almost 2 years since that night and Gracie is a thriving healthy little Min-Pin, alive I'm sure, only because of my daughter's love for her.

I was absolutely devastated when she died.  Here is our little angel:

What a precious little angel!  Your loss is recent - I know it is still very difficult.  Have you considered getting another puppy?

When our KokoPuf died of a heart attack (literally dropped dead in front of us) we were devastated - but particularly Hedduk (now known as Kokopuf on here).  She died on May 12, 2009.  I can never forget the date because it was 2 days before my birthday.  Our other border collie, KupKake was lost without her.  After 3 months I convinced my hubbie that for the other dog's sake we had to move on and get another dog.  After a few fits and starts a precious blue merle border collie girl came into our lives. (Her picture is attached)  I love her so and I know that someday my heart will be broken again but having here in my life is worth the future pain.  Her doggie kisses are just worth it all.

Her name is KremePuf .  ( I know, I'm gagging on all these K names!- next dog will be spot!)

Okay KremePuf is precious! Smiley  We decided to wait at least a year before we start checking into getting another dog.  We have a few trips to make this year and will get the traveling done before bringing another dog into the family. Smiley
