Title: Any of you guys ever "cruise" your local "strip"?
Post by: Old Tider on March 21, 2011, 06:03:00 PM
In my youth, I did take a few cruises around the Waffle House to see what was cooking among the teenage crowd.

If you miss it, hurry over to Russellville for the next cruise:

We didn't have a Waffle House in my youth.  We cruised the KMart parking lot.

Oh, the days of "Jerry-Go-Round" - can't remember the real name!

It's a bank now, along with all the others on the 5-mile long parking lot, called of all things, the Parkway.

As far as I know there is no cruising place in Arab!  There is a new skating rink (I thought those went out in the 50's) but supposedly it is the new hangout.  A friend is still complaining about a box of popcorn costing $5!

I think kids still "cruise" in Cullman.  When I was a teen, we cruised up and down main street and parked at the "Globe" restaurant in between (a round building).  The main curb hop was a wonderful boy who had to work hard to help his family.  He put up with a lot from spoiled brats, was very friendly, and always got the orders right.  When he grew up, he bought the All Steak restaurant down town (Cullman's upscale dining) and made it even better.

The cruising years were great!   So was Charlie.

So, what's it like cruising and going to a car hop place in a Model T?  Not many of us remember those.    ;D  (you know I'm kidding!).  So, who was Charlie?  The curb hop boy??

We used to cruise all the time.  We had true muscle cars back in the day, and of course, hanging out at our favorite places typically led to taunts to race for "pink slips".  Of course, our main objective was to pick up girls.  Our main objective was typically a total failure.   :D

We didn't cruise, we hung out at peoples houses, but we were largely up to no good.  I dont know where kids cruise out here these days, I do see a bunch of punks at sonic every time I go to get a grape slushy.

The cost of gas these days will probably lead to more cruising down the sidewalk.

The kids in my hometown no longer cruise.  They all go to the courthouse square and park.  It's actually a pretty good solution since everything else downtown shuts down at 5pm.

Oh yeah. In Spartanburg, S.C. it was a cycle. See what's happenin' at the Beacon(drive-in) , cruise "the Spice" (Sugar & Spice Drive-In), then hang out at Burger King.

It was cool to cruise with Zoo. 8)

We had the two one ways 3rd and 4th ave west and a drive in cafe called Reefes. There were many drag races on the one ways.
