The OL is really starting to come together and gel as a unit. When you can operate against the UGA defense like Bama did, it starts with them. I am starting to wonder if Dylan Moses is mentally there from his injury. He is not playing well and is missing run fits like a rookie. One other thing I have noticed - do you thing the inside LBs are too close to the LOS? They appear to be 3 to 3.5 yards back as opposed to 5. I tend to believe this makes them more susceptible to the OL getting to their level and not having as good of vision for counters and the like as they would otherwise.

If he is on the sidelines, cue up the Bama conspiracy theories.

I know this is going to sound like sacrilege and I might get ripped for it: I don't think it all falls on Golding. Some of it does, but a lot of the defensive decline we have seen over the past few years falls on Saban. The scheme he perfected and won tons of ball games with is out of date with today's offenses IMO. It's more than recruiting different body types for LB and DL. Look how many times they are not set prior to the snap - they are all looking toward the sideline to get signals. They look confused. how many former Bama players have said that when they get to the NFL that the defense is a lot easier? I don't think a defense needs to be overly complex to work. There is way too much talent on the field for the results we are seeing. You win ball games with players, not schemes. What would be wrong with simplifying calls and letting the big dogs eat? I know Coach Saban is the best there is, and he knows more about the game than most of us combined, but surely he can figure out than streamlining the defensive playbook and making things more simple will allow players to stop thinking and start reacting and playing fast. Now, go ahead and scorch me. Smiley

I have said before, I don't think they let the athletes play sometimes.  Maybe this group need to keep it simple.  That being said, it doesn't account for the busted assignments and missed tackles.  Like I said earlier, I would be livid at film time with some of these players.

Oh I agree with you there. The missed tackles and flat-out blown assignments are infuriating. It's almost if they don't know that the TE is an eligible receiver.

Forget winning championships - this defense will not let us win 7 games. I've never seen it this bad and I've been a Bama fan my whole 56 years of life.
66  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Game notes: A&M vs Bama on: October 05, 2020, 07:28:48 AM
hscoach, what are you seeing where Bama is leaving backs in the flat wide open? They seem very susceptible to that and the wheel route. Also, the OL has got to get some push with the running game. I know I am nitpicking with a 28 point win, but there are better teams ahead in the schedule.
67  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Game notes: UM vs Bama on: September 28, 2020, 08:34:27 AM
hscoach, even though Trey Sanders was in with the second OL, I didn't like what I saw. He looked tentative - that might be because of lack of push from the OL, but when Robinson got back in, he hit the hole hard and viciously. Overall, with no spring ball and the COVID situation, I liked what I saw.

69  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Cochran to UGA on: February 24, 2020, 06:11:17 PM
Is it bad? Yes. Is it devastating? Absolutely not. There are great S&C coaches who will love to come to Bama. I think Saban not putting up much of a fight is telling - I have been saying over the past few years that the injury bug could very well be from the S&C program not evolving. I am appreciative for Cochran's work at Bama, but he can be replaced.
70  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Game notes: UM vs Bama on: January 02, 2020, 11:13:26 AM
Thanks for your analysis all year coach. You do a great job. I am bummed that Najee will probably leave - the second half of this season he really came into his own, not just running the ball, but blocking in pass pro. He will be tough to replace.

I might catch heck for this, but I have grown tired of Dabo's whining. I used to think it would be great for him to take over when Saban retired, but no longer. His act grinds on me.
73  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: "Alabama may have several surprises; players who will stay for senior year." on: December 11, 2019, 09:04:16 AM
Guys, I don't see Tua being physically able to play even if he did stay. His injury is very serious and debilitating.
74  Around Campus / The Quad / Possible players sitting out Citrus Bowl; updated! on: December 08, 2019, 03:50:05 PM
I hope everyone plays in the game against Michigan - I despise them and want to drill the Wolverines. However, realistically, the possibility of some seniors / High draft juniors sitting exists. Who do you think might sit this one out?
75  Around Campus / The Quad / Re: Game notes: AU vs Bama on: December 04, 2019, 05:55:31 PM
I was disappointed in the LSU loss, but the Aubarn loss just really ticked me off. Absolutely no excuse in losing the game. I will never understand how this team could just not make critical plays in critical times. The most undisciplined team by far of the Saban era. Even before the game, I didn't think Bama was a playoff team. They're a good team, but by no means an elite team. Many factors contribute to that - just hope Saban can figure out how to fix it. Grrr!

I was disappointed when we lost to LSU too.  Really it was more of a frustration because of the mistakes made that contributed to it.  When Tua went down I really basically developed the mind-set that I didn't care about the season from that point on.  Then I started reading/hearing about how capable Mac Jones is and how much confidence the rest of the Bama team had in him I became confident in the team and was anxious to win out with the possibility of making the CFP again.  Mac Jones (Joker) didn't disappoint in the Western Carolina game and as Coach said in his game description, except for the two INTs he played an outstanding game.  I fully believe that if we had won the Iron Bowl and made the CFP that we could definitely made some noise there.  Mistakes are a part of the game of football just like injuries are.  We have had far more than our share of both this season. Maybe that is just making up for the years where our teams were healthy and strong and didn't make many mistakes?  Not sure.
As far as Bama not being an elite team, they lost by just 5 points to LSU and just 3 points to the Barn.  They could have beaten them if a couple of plays had gone our way.  IMO, we could have easily beat Aubarn by at least two TD's had mistakes not been made and penalties were eliminated.  Question for you:  If we had beaten both LSU and Aubarn would you think we would be considered elite?  I believe that there are only a very few teams that could beat Bama this year if we played as we are capable and eliminate the penalties.  That makes us elite IMO.

Not trying to be contentious, just hoping to give you a different perspective.

I think if Tua, Moses, McMillon, and the others who were crucial to both sides of the ball weren't hurt, maybe Bama would have been elite. Again, don't get me wrong - Bama is a very good team. But with the injuries and defensive issues, definitely a drop off from previous years. I will say this - the CFP committee took a Bama loss that was close and dropped them 7 places while dropping Michigan, who lost by 29 at home, only three. That is preposterous.
