I'll go with Tiger. I know he has sucked at majors this year, but he has won 3 signature tournaments and I think he's due.

edit: I changed the title so we could use the thread for discussion without creating a new thread.  If offended, send me an Aub shirt!

I'll go with the field, there are too many hazards to conquer in this tournament for me to pick a favorite. Tiger has already said the hayfield roughs are unplayable and the weather, wind and rain, is usually a major factor as well.

What about Adam Scott?  He's got a 2-stroke lead now.  Guess I'll pick Tiger.

I will take the field. If pressed to pick someone on the list I would go with Lee Westwood. I will be pulling for Tiger and Phil or any other American in contention.

Guess we'll use this thread for discussion of THE OPEN.

Tiger started off like Tiger of old; 4 under after 7 holes.  Then he slowed, and finished Day 1 at -3.  I don't know when I've seen Tiger upbeat after his first round.  His interview was fun.

Phil is just now -1 (late start).

I got up to watch this, in part because I love watching (others) play in the rain and wind.  I like football on TV like that too.  But THE OPEN is docile: no wind, no rain.  WTH?

Maybe it'll get nasty by tomorrow.

I just glanced at the leaderboard. Several low scores today. Adam Scott at -6. Some big names in the hunt on Day 1.

Have you noticed that the announcers have a delay before the "live" broadcast?  The only lesser players they show are ones about to make a birdie.  They don't show anyone else, except on the 18th.  I find it irritating; they act like it's live, but it's not.   Angry

It's painful to watch Phil struggle like he is. He's been all over the pacle with some horrendous lies. He's at +3 after 16. McIroy is making a run. He has a short putt to finish at -3.
