Title: Did Bama win or lose last night
Post by: Jamos on September 30, 2012, 07:49:18 AM
From the very beginning of the game, Ole Miss sent a message to the Bama players and that was that you may win tonight but it won't be easy. For all of us Bama fans that thought there was no team in college football that could out physical this Bama team, we got a first hand view that this is not so afterall.

Bama reminded me of some past LSU games when the Tigers seemed to be helping someone off the field after every play. Ole miss out tackled, out blocked, and had it not been for the big second quarter, Bama could have easily been on the casualty list of being victim of the "Upset Saturday" that many had been predicting during the week.

With Bama heading into the meat of their schedule, this might have been a blessing for the Crimson Tide. I don't know if there are any teams that will be any quicker than Ole Miss was last night but there could be some that will be just as physical. I'm sure that every team left to play on Bama's schedule will use the tape of this game in their preparation for Bama. Being the true blue fans that we are though, we want to believe that it was just an off night for the team.

Was this a win or a loss for Bama? Last night somewhat reminded me of the 2010 team, as the team went through the motions of playing but never consistently showed the mental and physical toughness to repeat as a national champion. This is what happened to the 2010 team, as complacency took that team down to being very average.

The next two weeks are a crossroad for Bama and you have to wonder will they work their way back to the level of play that they have shown in earlier games or will they continue the level of play that they showed last night. CNS had warned the team all week of what we saw last night but the players didn't seem to heed that warning and to me that is the part that concerns me most.

The only way we will know if Bama won or lost last night will have to wait until Bama plays it's next games and hopefully they learned enough from this game to realize what is ahead for them. Roll Tide!! >:(

We certainly did not play our best. It was disappointing to get beat by their DL all night. Our OL had decent pass protection but run blocking was not good at all. With our big OL we should have opened nice running lanes against Ole Miss under sized DL.

A question I have is where has the Tight End and H-Back gone in our offense?

The kick return gave us the momentum we needed for a big 2nd qtr. Good thing for that. Ole Miss holding us to 6 points in the 2nd half is reason for concern.

I will take the 33-14 win and be happy. You don't play your best every week and have to find a way to win. That's what we did last night. We are still the best team in the SEC and country. LSU, Oregon and others did not play well either.

Hugh Freeze is doing a good job with Ole Miss. It will take time but his team is improving. You can take the Ole Miss game out of the automatic win column for several teams including the barn.

Well said both Jamos and pmull.  I was a little shocked at how OM 'out-quicked' our OL.  For all the hype about our OL, they are too frequently underperforming.

And I gotta say this:  On that last drive, on the play where AJ threw incomplete into the endzone, Eddie L was wide open in the right flat for an easy TD.  AJ never looked at him.  Seeing the whole field is still a problem for AJ.  He gets locked in on one guy and that's it.

A win is a win. That said lets hope last night was a learning situation. Mizzou plays a similar offense so we should be use to the speed.
What worries me the most is teams stacking the box and slowing our running game. We have got to be able to get to the outside, running inside is tough. I would like to see some type of misdirection or reverse. Being able to outflank a defense is also key.
The last thing is the injury bug. Let's hope we have had our share and it moves on. DW knee injury could be the most serious. Saw a tweet from DH that said he was A1. Please be the case. We need him

Good discussion.  We have to come up with an answer for when teams sell out to stop the run.  They did the same thing to us in 2010 and we never did find the answer.  This bye week came at a perfect time.  Maybe we can get some of this stuff corrected before it causes us to drop a game.  I seriously doubt we will get a mulligan this year if we don't finish the season 13-0.
