Good morning folks.  I'm very happy that your friend came through his heart surgery well Chech.  Good to see Jamos back on the board too...

An update on Abel:  He had a follow-up appointment yesterday to get some results.  The doctor still doesn't know what is causing his bleeding for sure but he suspects that Abel may have had a hemorrhoid up inside that ruptured and is still bleeding.  He also wants us to take him to a Gastroenterologist.  I suspect they will most likely want to do a colonoscopy on him.  Whatever it takes to find out and fix, if possible, whatever it is that is causing this.

One thing that we did find out though.  The ultra-sound revealed something that we had no idea about.  That is that Abel has what is referred to as a "Horseshoe kidney."  This is a medical anomaly that occurs in utero in which the kidneys never separate into two and move to the back and side where they are protected by the rib cage.  His kidney (they are actually just one in a "U" shape, is in front where it is unprotected.  The doctor asked Mrs. Nalt if Abel plays sports to which she told him that he had played football for three years when he was younger but doesn't now.  The doctor said that because his kidney is unprotected that he can NEVER play any contact sports again and especially football.  When Abel and Mrs. Nalt got home he came in to tell me about this and he said, "That means that I can't play football for Alabama now!"  Knowing that your son loves the Crimson Tide that much is enough to make a grown man cry... Cry   The kidney issue is, at this point, at least secondary to anything else.  We HAVE to find out what is causing his other problem and get that corrected if possible.  The doctor does want us to take him to a urologist later because the horseshoe kidney has other complications that could cause him problems as he gets older.

Thank you to you all for your prayers and concerns for Abel.  He is such a warm and loving person and truly is a gentle giant even at just 2 weeks shy of his 12th birthday.

You got that right, NALT. He's a great kid. My eyes are sweating from the kidney story. Maybe he can coach.

Thanks for keeping us updated. Prayers to continue.  Pray

I pray that the bleeding issue is minor, and the real story becomes 'we discovered and corrected the kidney issue'.

For what it's worth, I injured a kidney playing pick-up football as a freshman at Bama.  Such injuries can be life threatening, and I was hospitalized for 3 weeks.  Definitely support your decision to take him from contact sports.  Flyfishing??  I can mentor!

Fishing in general is something that he and all my kids really love to do.  I need to make time to take them more often.  Little known fact about me... I was raised with a fly rod in my hand. Dad taught my brothers and I to fly fish when we were fairly young, I might have been about Abel's age... I have a fly rod sitting on our mantel in the den right now that I need to take out... But yeah, would love to watch you work with Abel and try teaching him to fly fish...

He can start by practicing in the yard (clip the hook off the fly).  There are very good YouTube lessons available for him.  It's much easier to start in a mowed lawn than in water, because the lawn give less drag upon the uptake.  Tuck the elbow in, lock the wrist, and begin practicing at a target.

We'll all be in Yellowstone soon!

Hopefully not EVERYBODY!

Thank you NALT for the update. Still praying for Abel and I believe in the healing power of prayer. We as Bama fans sometimes for get what others go through that can't have the opportunity to walk on the field at Alabama. I think this morning we are reminded.
Please tell Abel that no matter how or what is said or done that his friends here still LOVE him. You know he could be the young man that is to spend his time inventing the cure for cancer rather on than on the field of play. I believe as Chechem and you spoke Abel might be the next Bill Dance with a fishing show. You all have a Blessed day. RTR!

We all survived the dull off season, and at least now fall practice has begun. Lots of news.

Life in North Carolina is good these days: bbq and humidity. Off to the airport this morning to greet incoming family. Then the party begins.

Have a good day, all.

Sounds like a heck of a family reunion. Should be a fun time for all.

Good morning folks.  I decided to take a day off work today for a "mental health" day... I'm actually going to be working on rebuilding an old horse drawn wagon for one of my brothers.

Runt started school yesterday.  He is still the same though.  He isn't hurting or feeling badly, just has bloody diarrhea all the time.  He and James Edward have been begging me to take them fishing in Mrs. Nalt's brother's pond all week... We are still waiting to hear when we are to take him to the gastroenterologist.  I figure until we do nothing will change.

Mrs. Nalt just told me that we now have an appointment with the gastroenterologist on August 23... Seems like a long time to have to wait.  Especially if we can't get that diarrhea under control...
