What teachers want to tell parents...

I agree.  My teachers (all who made a career of teaching) always knew they had the support of parents.  I lived with a real taskmaster who made me and my brothers do our homework as soon as we came home from school.  Once it was done we were free to do other things, but not a minute sooner.

Well from what I see we have some, only a few, things we had when I was in school. The difference is, if my teachers brought problems to my parents I got a spankin at school and then I got one at home. I guess that is why our teachers last for 30 and 40 years in teaching. RTR!

The same kind of parent crap flows over into sports also...I was a City rec baseball umpire for over 20 years..in several towns. At the same time, I officiated HS, college, and American Legion BB. I NEVER had so much trouble with parents as I did in the 11-12 yr old leagues..it was pure h*ll at times! Almost every parent thought their kid was the next Barry Bonds or Mickey Mantle...How dare I call a 3rd strike on their little boy!  And the city officials ALWAYS took up for the parent in any conflict...

I remember one situation where a kid who I could tell was scared slap to death to be batting, came up and stood directly on top of the plate..I called time, and quietly took the bat from him, asked him to move over to the batters box, showed him the line to stand behind, and proceeded with thegame..He took 3 straight strikes, as I expected. I blame his coach for not teaching him properly. but after the game, a woman approached me identifying herself as the kid in question's mom, and proceeded to curse me like a dog for "embarassing her little boy like that" I tried to tell her that I was simply trying to keep him from getting badly hurt,(never mind enforcing a rule)but it was on deaf ears. I surmise that she was probably a single mother, and no man was in the picture, but that does not excuse her pure ignorance.  I could go on and on with other situations just as stupid, but I think all of you get the picture.  I quit when An irate GRANDMOTHER started cursing me and my partner and throwing water bottles over the fence.  I have not attended a 11-12- game since but my pals in the officiating assoc tell me it is as bad as ever.

That's some guts to have even taken that position in the first place, 67. Kudos to you for keeping your cool, 'cause I'm not sure that I would have been able to. Did you punch something when you got home that night?

Well, I sure was PO"D..and I admit I was hurt...I love sports, played all I could in MS and HS, and loved to participate and compete..And I love helping kids, that's why I got into officiating, plus I did some coaching too.

There is another part of the story:  At the 13-14 yr old league games, not many parents even bother to come and watch, so the crap is less.
Plus I suppose they begin to see they little hero is not gonna be a star.

My theory about the 11-12 yr olds is that, in Dad's eyes, he's not a little boy any more..but in Mom's eyes, he is still her little boy, and her protective genes come out in force.

And I had games at the 15-18 yr old league where there wasn't a parent in sight.

I help out at the local HS sometimes with the FB team, and I have a good friend who is a teacher and coach..he tells me that if years ago, he knew kids and parents were going to be this much trouble, he would have never got into teaching. It is a mad house.

I personally think the public school system is a cesspool, and it's not all because of parents..the stupid-*ss adminstrators, etc. are also part of the problem.  If I had school age kids today, I would home-schoool them or put them in a Christian School. 

I only retired from officiating about 6 years ago because, well, I was 60, and you gotta quit sometime..and I did not want to become a guy like some we had (And STILL have) who not only have lost a step, but 6 or 8!  I have always found that coaches will forgive you an honest missed call, but NOT if you were out of position!
