Quote CBSsports.com is reporting that Tennessee has decided to end Bruce Pearl’s tenure as the school’s men’s basketball coach because of NCAA violations detailed in a notice of allegations received last month. A formal announcement is expected in the next 24 hours. Pearl first gained national acclaim in 2005 when he led Wisconsin-Milwaukee of the Horizon League to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. Who was their top basketball coach before Pearl came in? Actually, they've had two pretty good coaches since I started watching Tide BB in 1968. Ray Mears was there for maybe 16 years and had some solid teams. He aso had Ernie & Bernie. Ernie Grunfeld and Bernard King, two fantastic players who player together at UT. Then, they had Don DeVoe, another very solid coach for 10 to 12 years. Both coaches won several SEC titles and had some excellent teams. They were the equal of C.M. Newton and Wimp.
