Title: Alabama Shooting Guard Declares for NBA Draft
Post by: Marshal Dillon on April 15, 2021, 09:38:02 PM
I don’t think he leaves. He’s just not there yet.

Sophomore Jaden Shackelford made the announcement on his social media accounts Thursday night stating his intention to enter the NBA draft. He will not hire an agent, per his announcement so he could return to school.

I thought Quinerly might test the NBA waters but he’s not ready either. If Shackelford keeps improving next year, he will be ready. The trio of Primo, Shackelford, & Quinerly is awesome for next year. Plus, we recruited the best guard in the country.

There is no reason for these guys not to test the waters as long as they keep the option to return to school open. It is my understanding they evaluate the players and advise them of their  potential draft status. If they recommend they return to school they also advise them on the parts of their game that needs to improve. Petty was evaluated last year and returned. I bet he was told to work on his defense. His defense improved greatly in his senior year. It could have been Oats and the Bama staff but I think the NBA evaluation played a part in the improvement.

I do not think Shack is ready for the NBA. I hope he gets better advise than they gave Kennedy Winston in 2005. He was told he was a first round pick and went undrafted. He had a long career overseas but never made the NBA. IMO he was one of the purest shooters we have ever had. He was 6-6 and averaged 17 pts a game. Still not what the NBA was looking for.

Alabama guard Josh Primo announced he will enter the 2021 NBA Draft with an NCAA-certified agent, which will allow him to maintain his eligibility while receiving NBA feedback.

I hope Primo does the same!  But it's looking like he'll go.  I can't blame him if he's a 1st rounder

If I remember correctly, Primo is projected as a 1st round pick and I believe has hired an agent. I doubt we get him back.

Great to have Shackleford back.

Primo is gone. He did not remove his name from the NBA draft by the required date to return and I believe he has hired an agent. They are projecting him a late first round or early 2nd round pick. He looked like a good player but no where near ready for the NBA to me... but what I do I know? I would not be surprised to see him in the G League or overseas for years to come. I hope I am wrong.

Apparently, Primo killed it in workouts which hugely impressed several NBA teams.

Yeah, I read a time or two that he had some of the most impressive days of anyone there.
