What is the legal age for drinking in Louisiana?
21, like most places these days.  Federal funding requires it.

We also seem to be guilty of holding some people to higher standards than we did ourselves when we were in college, our kids, or non-athletes in general.

I'm not condoning his actions, particularly if he lied about what he was actually doing, but I'm not ready to throw him under the bus for having a few beers just because he's shy of legal drinking age by a couple months.
Legal drinking age was 19 when I was in college at Alabama, the age you still are considered a legal adult here.

Really, the knock on Manziel him is maturity, mostly a concern for an NFL franchise considering shelling out the bucks.

One thing a lot of young folks get confused about is being called an "Adult" at the age of 18. That is a legal standard mainly for the purpose of criminal justice and being considered an adult if you commit a crime. When my son turned 18 he thought he would have the full range of rights an adult has. Wrong! I told him being 18 meant he could join the military, buy a rifle or shotgun, or get the electric chair as a convicted criminal. Those were the "benefits" of turning 18. He is 21 and still learning this painful lesson (for him). He tried to rent a car, nope, he tried to buy a new truck, nope, tried to rent a beach condo for a week, nope, and finally he asked me, "Dad, what the heck can I do?" I laughed and had a long talk with him. As always, Dad is there to give him guidance (and money) when needed.

This kid is either seriously stupid or drunk.

One place in the Lone Star State where people definitely have mixed feelings about Manziel, however, is in Austin. The A&M QB has been having an epic weekend at the University of Texas, and the school's students have had mixed reactions to his presence

His ego is a lot bigger than he is. Winning the Heisman is about like winning the lottery. The problem is JF won it too early in his college career and he is in for an epic fail in his sophomore year.

Excellent point. If A&M loses 3 games and his stats fall off, how will he handle that? Plus, I get the impression everyone is getting tired of his "act."

Drinking is not thte issue here. Gluttney is. Just as it was stated on a previous page, AJ and others were out with Johnny the night before, and all seemded to ahve a had drinks. Some just handle it beter than others. Just like some can cut a small piece of cake and eat it. Others cut a small piece, and eat the rest of the cake.
Johnny needs some self controll. If he can't handle his liquor, he needs to walk away now.

He sure thinks a lot of himself doesn't he?  Imagine what would happen if Cam Newton showed up to party on fraternity row in Tuscaloosa.  I can't believe he thought he could waltz into UT and be welcomed just because he is Johnny Football after all.

His complete lack of respect for said road is what gets me.

Incredible article & interview about Manziel. Scary & sad. This kid is really screwed up.

Quote
While Nate explains the insanity of their lives, as if on cue another negative story breaks, this one about Johnny almost being suspended for the season last year after his arrest and coming within five days of transferring. Nate reads the news on his phone and looks concerned.

"How'd that get out?" he asks. "Less than 50 people know that. That's someone in the school talking."

He's suspicious about this story, which credits an unnamed source. Nate thinks Texas A&M is leaking on its star quarterback, and in the end it doesn't even really matter if that is true or not. There's been a growing rift between the school and its most important student. It's not just Nate's paranoia about the story, or Johnny's frustrations with the nonfootball, marketing expectation of the school, or his father's sense of injustice that everyone makes money off his son but his son. The rift is more profound. Many people close to Johnny Manziel no longer believe in the integrity of the institutions charged with protecting him.

Lost faith is one more casualty of the fishbowl.

Quote
They're concerned. Paul thinks Johnny drinks to deal with the stress. After his arrest, Johnny's parents and Sumlin mandated he visit an alcohol counselor; Johnny saw him six or seven weeks during the season. About the only place they still see the real him is on the football field. Mostly what they see is the emotional byproduct of whatever is chewing him up inside. "I don't know where the anger comes from," Paul says. "I don't think he knows. If it comes from his drinking, or if he's mad at himself for not being a better person when he fails, when he fails God and his mom and me. If it makes him angry that he's got demons in him. You can only speculate because you can't go in there."

Of all things to use to get rid of anger, alcohol is the worst thing he could possibly use. I just wonder though if he just uses this anger thing as his excuse to drink. The only way he quits the booze is if he really wants to quit. Drinking is a bad habit and habits can be very hard to break for some, if they lack the willpower.

The kid is spiraling down and about to auger in I'm afraid.  Can you imagine the pressure he is under to beat Bama again to prove it wasn't all a fluke?  Can you imagine what will happen if aTm does manage to win?  If they win, it just pours gas on the fire.  If they lose, then his whole little world comes crashing down.  Regardless of what happens, I can't imagine a good outcome for him.

Now Mommy and Daddy Manziel are getting into the fray.  They need to stop enabling him and bust a paddle across his back-side.
