Tide DL Jesse Williams stirs up Twitter after 600 lb bench press

Jesse is a beast and in for a big year.

Alabama defensive tackle Jesse Williams has made waves since arriving in Tuscaloosa from his homeland of Australia, standing out with his unique look and big personality as well as his performance on the field.

The latest feat from Williams that has fans buzzing came in the weight room on Thursday when the 320-pound lineman reportedly bench pressed 600 pounds.

To give that achievement some perspective, former Memphis star Dontari Poe, the top bench press performer at this year's NFL Combine, maxed out at 500 pounds on the bench press.

I don't like these showoff bench presses.  We don't need any more hernias, torn muscles, or accidents with weights.   

But I can't weight [sic] for Jesse to crush the Michigan center!

I was listening to Jim Rome in the car a little while ago and he was going on and on about Jesse benching "600 bills" as he called it. He said he's never heard of any football player ever bench pressing that much. He figures if he can bench 600, he could squat 1000 lbs. Rome is not one of my favorite people, but it was kind of interesting listening to a Westie" in awe of a Bama player.

Bill needs to eat something if he only weighs a pound.  I bet it is hard to hold on to all 600 of those guys at once.  He must have huge hands too.

I'm going to agree with Rome on this one. If Jesse can bench 600 lbs. there is no telling how much he can squat.

I remember reading the coaches having to tell BATR to back off the weights because they were afraid he would hurt himself. I am surprised the coaches are letting Jesse lift that much weight this close to fall practice. Chech mentioned earlier you don't want a weight lifting injury.

You know as well as I do that this has gotten out all over the college football world (NFL, too) and OL's that are going to be lined up opposite of Jesse are gonna have that in their heads. All I can say is, they better not show any fear, lol!

I agree mate, although i think this has gotten a bit out of control, i wonder if he had lifted 595 whether he would have gotten the same attention,lol.

Also people need to know that he was benching 540+ at junior college, so hard work and a good facilities gave him the extra little bit.
