The Alabama vs Auburn baseball game in Montgomery has been postponed until tomorrow (Wed) night due to weather.

Normally, that would be a bad thing, but now there's something to do on a Wednesday night.

I got my tickets today for the Troy-Bama game that will be played here in P'cola on March 25th.

 

J, my buddy that grew up with Gary and I is coming over from Tallahassee to watch the game with me. He played baseball at Troy.

There are several lesser talked about programs that are doing well this year.

Men's Golf

The No. 1 Alabama men's golf team shot 11-over-par 299 in the first round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters Friday at the par-72, 7,374-yard Southern Highlands Country Club.

The Crimson Tide is 10 shots back of host UNLV who carded a 1-over-par 289 for the clubhouse lead after 18 holes. No. 2 Oklahoma State is in second place at 5-over 293 with Oklahoma third at 296 and Stanford fourth at 297. UCLA joins Alabama in fifth with TCU in sixth at 301.

Women's Golf

Senior Stephanie Meadow's opening-round 67 helped the eighth-ranked Alabama women's golf team finish in a tie for second place after 18 holes of the Darius Ricker Intercollegiate on the par-71, 6,233-yard Long Cove Club.
The two-time defending champion Crimson Tide shot 9-over 293 and enter Saturday's second round in a tie with Vanderbilt, nine shots back of third-ranked Duke (E, 284). South Carolina is fourth at 10-over 294 and North Carolina is fifth (295). A trio of teams is tied for sixth at 13-over 297, including No. 4 Arkansas, No. 7 Stanford and No. 21 LSU.

Women's Tennis

The fourth-ranked women's tennis team won its third-straight 4-0 victory, this time coming at LSU, on Friday night at the W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium. With the win, the Crimson Tide improves to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference, while the loss drops the Tigers to 7-5 on the season and 0-3 against league opponents.

Track

University of Alabama freshman Jeremiah Green has been named the Southeastern Conference Men's Freshman Field Athlete of the Year for indoor track by virtue of a vote of the league's head coaches, the SEC office announced Friday morning. Green, of Tampa, Fla., is the first Alabama athlete to be voted the SEC's Freshman Field Athlete of the Year.

The University of Alabama track & field team has earned spots in both the men's and women's team rankings this week for the first time. The women's team made its first appearance in the top 25 at No. 18 while the men's team is ranked 11th in this week's edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I National Team Computer Rankings released Monday. The Tide men maintained their No. 2 ranking in this week's South Region rankings while the Alabama women are ranked 7th in the South Region team survey.

Florida just beat Kentucky 85-66. They are the first team to ever go 18-0 in SEC regular season.

Florida will most likely be a # 1 seed and just might win it all.

I have only seen UF play SC, but I was really impressed on how well they block out and are ALWAYS in position. They are well coached and they execute beautifully. If they don't have a letdown, I can't see anybody beating them.

They are not the most talented team in the country but they are well coached and play good together. Teams with mostly senior starters do good in the tourney. They went 18-0 in SEC play. That has never been done before.

Even Donovan will feel the pain after long 4 senior starters. It will be a rebuilding year for him but he will still win 20 since the SEC is in such a funk.

Fourteen games into the baseball season we are 9-5. The strength of the team is pitching and defense. The pitching staff ERA is 1.76 which is excellent.

We have lost 5 games by the scores of 2-1, 2-1, 2-1, 2-0 and 6-0. We could be 13-1 scoring just 3 runs a game.

We have a team batting avg of .258. We have some good hitters in the line up but we need to get more consistent throughout the line up. We have to improve our batting avg with runners in scoring position.

Overall we are off to a good start. We have a 5 game winning streak. We host Samford on Tuesday and start SEC play Friday by hosting Kentucky.
