Title: "Nick Saban suggests Alabama is the Muhammad Ali of college football"
Post by: Chechem on October 25, 2011, 06:53:06 AM

Will Nov 5 be the Thrilla in Manila or the Beatdown in T-town?

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Is it me, or did Nick Saban just compare his Alabama football team to Muhammad Ali?

No, he didn't suggest that Marquis Maze floats like a butterfly or Dre Kirkpatrick stings like a bee, but the coach who loves to dip into other sports for metaphors and analogies did invoke the boxing legend in an interesting way...

LSU will rue the day they came to Tuscaloosa against this Bama team.

As many of you recall, Muhammad Ali lost some fans by his refusal to serve the military in Vietnam.
Listen!!  Are those LSU players chanting, "Hell no, we won't go"?

"The Tussle in T-town" ?
"Throwdown in T-town" ?

Actually I prefer:

The "Alabama Makes LSU's A** Quit" Game

May have to list that title as "The Sequel".

Even though I do not care for Keven Scarbo...I did chuckle at this...

Quote
Four of the first eight opponents have scored first. Unfortunately for Penn State, Florida, Ole Miss and Tennessee, none of them was smart enough to gather under the scoreboard for a team picture at that moment.

However, I do question the correctness of the highlighted portion, above. I am sure, as a media specialist he is more versed in the proper use of subject and adverb realations. Especially as it pertains to singular, and plural relationships.

Sorry, but traditionally "none" is "no one" or "not one"; thus it is singular.  I know, I know, the newer dictionaries list "none" as a synonym for "not any of", but that is a stretch to strict English-grammar teachers.  I hate Scarb, but he is okay with this one.

I figured as much. It does not sound right, but, I should not question his writing, and I he should not tell me how to save lives.
