Title: Which QB would you take?
Post by: hscoach on March 27, 2012, 12:44:01 PM
With the draft coming up which QB would you take. RGIII or OL?  RG seems to have the arm strength, but also has escapability.  OL has years of knowledge growing up with a Dad who was an NFL QB?  Your choice?

OL.  I'm more interested in a steady, dependable QB.

That's just based on perceptions.  I know little about their individual scores on their arm strengths, NFL tests, etc.

^^^ Then why bother to answer?  :dunno: I'll take OL-- also based primarily on character.

I'd take RGIII because of his arm strength and leadership. He showed he could carry a team when Baylor won and was never allowed to quit because of RGIII. JMHO! RTR!

I'm assuming OL is really AL (Andrew Luck). I'll go with him, I think he will prove to be the more accurate and more mature QB coming out of college. I think RGIII will be like Cam, all talent, no leadership. I think AL will be by far, the better leader.

Ditto (I was also wondering who OL was  :D ). Besides, I also believe that the bigger risks you take, the more often that they fail (not always, but often). I think Washington has really mortgaged its future on RGIII, and that is just asking for trouble. I have the feeling the Rams are going to be laughing at Daniel Snyder for the next few years.

OL apparently was a trick question.  I fell for it!  :-[

I am sorry I put his dads iinitials in there.  AL..     The decision is hard for me because of the quality of D's they faced.

AL all the way.  He ran a more pro style offense in college.  RG ran that crazy run/throw spread which doesn't develop pocket presence. (Look at how Tebow has struggled.) AL's transition to the NFL should be much easier.

I agree.  "AOL" will have an easier time transitioning to the NFL.  I do think RG is a good leader and athlete, but he is a big ? in the NFL.

I would pick Luck. They are both very good. Luck is more in the mold of Manning and Brady. RGIII is more like Young and Vick. I think your chance of developing Luck into a Superbowl QB is better than RGIII.

As far as NFL ready, I think RGIII is ahead of where Vick and Young were when they came in.  Scheme wise I agree that AL played in a more traditonal NFL type offense.

One thing RGIII has over Vick and Young is the mental element, and character.  I don't think he will be a wash-out, but AL also has the mental element, in spades, and more experience in NFL set.

I think both are excellent QBs who will do well in the NFL. AL is just a bit ahead of RG3 because of the system he ran in college. Both are intelligent, hard working individuals that can throw the ball very hard. I look forward to seeing what both of them can do.

I don't think you go wrong with either.  AL is very mature and RGIII has proven to be a hard worker in my eyes by graduating both high school an college early.  I would pick AL, if I were Indy, solely based on their style of offense.

I'm with the folks who say it's a close call, Ultimately, I'd go with AL for reasons similar to McBaman's: AL plays a style that doesn't rely on the sorts of physical skills that will start fading when he hits 30, or which place him at heightened risk of injury. RGIII is more of a risk on both counts.
