Jamos has a theory. I'll let him explain, but all may not be good with Osorio.  Sad

It was a bad day for Osorio and hopefully it is a temporary thing. Last week at Mississippi State she didn't pitch well but it was good enough to win her 2 games. Her pitches didn't have that sharp snap to them as they usually do but good pitchers do have bad days at times. Yesterday it was the same thing but a little more noticeable.

The fans around us noticed as well that something was wrong. After giving up 4 runs CPM finally went and pulled her. She seemed to wipe tears from her eyes and left the field with her head down, something very unusual for her. She was flexing her right arm and shoulder at times but never reacted with a facial expression to hint anything was wrong.

I personally think she has some arm fatigue, maybe a little tendinitis. She has thrown a lot of pitches this season chasing the strikeout records and this may come back to haunt her. Hopefully she hasn't been trying to pitch with an injury of some sort and hasn't told anyone. Any type of injury that affects the pitching motion is not good and should be treated ASAP and not kept a secret, it will only expose itself in due time.

These observations are worrying me. Some of what you say used to be called a "dead" arm many years ago. Now, it is called a torn rotator cuff, requiring surgery by the likes of Dr. Andrews. Hope I'm wrong.

 Tinfoil Hat

Pitching softball and baseball are actually the opposite of each other. Baseball is thrown overhanded which they say is not the natural motion for the shoulder and that's why there are so many "muscle" issues with baseball pitchers. Softball on the other hand is thrown underhanded and that is the natural motion for the arm. Her problem seems to be in the lower arm, info from some of the "knows", which is caused by the fingers spinning the ball upward. In most cases, a shot of cortisone can give instant relief but daily therapy is needed as well. Hopefully a little TLC and warmer weather will get her back in her normal form. It would also help if the Bama hitters could give her a good cushion score wise as she works out of all of this.

IMO, this is the key to our success.  Seems like our pitching is good enough most days to beat the opponents but the bats just aren't doing their jobs.  Even the best pitcher CAN NOT win if we can't get base runners on...

Good points and here'e an article about softball injuries. Key words seem to be overuse, tendinitis, with a possibility of a rotator cuff problem.

Quote
Shoulder injuries are the most common for softball players, especially for pitchers. Tendonitis, or inflammation of the tendons, is very common in the shoulder or rotator cuff.  Frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, causes a hindrance in shoulder motion. With any of these injuries can come general shoulder instability, in which the ball of the joint is not properly supported within the shoulder socket.

More serious shoulder injuries include shoulder separation or a torn rotator cuff.

Bama softball beat LSU tonight, 3-0, in spite of a blind ump. I was watching the game on TV and could regularly hear Jamos yelling "C'mon Blue!!!".  Laughing

I thought Ole Blue was actually deaf last night until he made a trip to the Bama dugout and gave CPM a written warning. I know he was blind. Laughing

The written warning probably said the following:

Quote
I'm warning you Coach Murphy, if you don't get that old guy to stop yelling at me then this is going to be a really looooooooong weekend for the Tide.

Yes, they did.  I managed to watch the last 3.5 innings.  It was a really great "pitcher's dual" though.  I only like those when my team ends on top... Cry Cry Cry

Little john pitched her heart out last night and was the victim of two circumstances, an umpire crew that has no business having a  job at the college level and a team that can't hit their hat size for an average. You can"t correct the umpiring but CPM should be able to do something with the batting problem. It has been going on for quite a few games now and if this team is to have any chance at post season play, WCWS, they will have to wake their bats up and I mean now.

The umpiring wasn't much better today but the ladies did manage to get some timely hits to beat LSU 4-2. Alexis Osorio pitched the entire game for the win. Marisa Runyon got a 2 run double in the bottom of the 6th inning that produced the winning runs.

Great win for the girls. If they can get those bats to warm up, they can make a strong finish.
