The softball team split a double header with USCe, losing the first game 14-0.  Huh?

Won the second game 5-2.

The basketball team lost to Ga Tech in the NIT 76-66 in Atlanta.

It was a bad day for Osorio and hopefully it is a temporary thing. Last week at Mississippi State she didn't pitch well but it was good enough to win her 2 games. Her pitches didn't have that sharp snap to them as they usually do but good pitchers do have bad days at times. Yesterday it was the same thing but a little more noticeable.

The fans around us noticed as well that something was wrong. After giving up 4 runs CPM finally went and pulled her. She seemed to wipe tears from her eyes and left the field with her head down, something very unusual for her. She was flexing her right arm and shoulder at times but never reacted with a facial expression to hint anything was wrong.

I personally think she has some arm fatigue, maybe a little tendinitis. She has thrown a lot of pitches this season chasing the strikeout records and this may come back to haunt her. Hopefully she hasn't been trying to pitch with an injury of some sort and hasn't told anyone. Any type of injury that affects the pitching motion is not good and should be treated ASAP and not kept a secret, it will only expose itself in due time.

I watched the game last night and Osorio did start the game but her pitch control is still not where it was earlier in the season. I will say the weather conditions were not very good last night as most folks had on their winter wear. The thing missing most with the team right now is their hitting, it is not very good. Bama had their chances last night to score some runs but it never happened as the timely hits never happened. If there was one thing the team had starting the season was the absence of Haley McCleney as she graduated. She was a wonderful player but most of all she was a leader. This is the one thing the team has lacked all season, there is no leader on this team. When Osorio was healthy and pitching well, the team rode her success but like it is in all sports, trends or streaks come and go and Osorio is not as healthy right now as she was earlier this year. This is the time that scoring plenty of runs can help not so good pitching but Bama bats have gone silent.

The sad part about all of this is now the number of conference loses is putting the team in a precarious position for post season tournament play. The advantage of playing at home come tournament time is a huge factor and Bama is losing their chance of that factor with any loss moving forward and they have a very tough schedule still facing them.

They may have to depend more on Littlejohn. Looks like Osorio needs a little time to heal. I'm a little surprised Murphy isn't sitting her for a while, unless it's something he thinks she can work through.

Maddie Moore is the big problem, Murph just doesn't seem to trust her enough to take Osorio out of the line up and I can understand that. He put her in against South Carolina and they bombed her. It would be nice if Littlejohn could step up but historically she doesn't have the stamina to pitch long innings or back to back games. Osorio should have won the game last night even though her pitch count was high but she has to have more runs scored to support her right now. The cold weather is not the answer for an ailing arm either.

These observations are worrying me. Some of what you say used to be called a "dead" arm many years ago. Now, it is called a torn rotator cuff, requiring surgery by the likes of Dr. Andrews. Hope I'm wrong.

Peyton Grantham hits 3 HRs and Bama blasts Mizzou 9-3. Littlejohn gets the win.
