Very interesting.

In 2010 LSU self-reported recruiting violations that took place in 2009 to the NCAA and had a hearing in front of the Committee on Infractions this past April. Now, according to a tweet from Yahoo's Charles Robinson, the NCAA has a conference call this afternoon to discuss the committee's decision in regards to LSU's case

What is this "self reporting" you speak of?

I have to give LSU props. It sounds as if they handled the situation properly. As much as I despise LSU, I despise the NCAA nazi regime even more, and I hope they do absolutely nothing more to LSU. This is a case where the school handled everything appropriately, and they should be given kudos, not sanctions.

Is this issue today an earlier situation being cleared up?

The paying an agent issue is still being investigated.

LSU paid the same sports agent as Oregon did over $26,000 over past 4 years. He is the  sports agent that Oregon paid $25,000.

I have no sympathy at all to any of the other schools as to what the NCAA does to them. Bama played by the book by self reporting themselves, suspending players, etc., but the NCAA had no mercy and threw the book at them more than once. If the other schools have to live through some of those experiences, so be it.

Are you sure? How big of a self imposed sanctions would be holding off until next season a couple of schollies. If they did not use them on the 2011 class does this mean they are gone? No. It means that they'll have more room in the 2012 class. Unless the new SEC adaptation of "Saban's Law" precludes it.  Huh?

Don't trust that LSU is doing the right thing, but rather is firing a coach they were looking at getting rid of anyway. JMO

I was listening to Finebaum today and they were able o patch in to the news conference with LSU officials about the sanctions. The guy speaking for LSU sounded like a dumbed-down version of Charles Barkley. It was embarassing. Paul stopped listening for the same reason and made a similar comment.

"In effect, LSU already has served its punishment regarding scholarships, having limited itself to 83 total scholarships during the 2010-11 academic year. That means the Tigers will be playing with the maximum 85 allowed scholarships in the 2011 season."

Well, that's that.

Not exactly. They're on probation, which menas if something comes out about the street agent they paid $25,000 to, they get hammered extra hard. They have to be very careful now in all matters. For a major violation, it does seem they got off somewhat easy.

Somehow this seems like much ado about (almost) nothing.  LSU self reported and got their wrist slapped.  Well B.F.D.  NCAA extended some of the minor peanalties by a year.  Another B.F.D.

Perhaps Marsh D got it right that the probation may be the biggest thing.  If they get nailed for the 'street agent' thing, that could be a biggie.  But I don't see that NCAA has done any great work here.

Isn't the current president of the NCAA a former regent or something at LSU back when Saban was there?  Hmmm...

Mark Emmert hired Saban when he was at LSU. I think he left LSU and went to Washington before taking over the NCAA President job.

Are you trying to infer that the President of the NCAA could have an ulterior motive?

 What?
