Title: Tide Pass Rush Ready To Work
Post by: pmull on March 24, 2011, 11:41:31 AM
TUSCALOOSA | At times last season, Courtney Upshaw played like he couldn't be blocked.

At other times, thanks to a high ankle sprain, it was difficult just to generate a quick first step. And Upshaw's season of ups and downs was not unlike the University of Alabama's pass rush as a whole.

"We need to improve our pass rush. We've been stopping the run here for a long time, but we've got to prove we can rush the passer," said senior nose guard Josh Chapman. "We've got guys on the field that can. ? We don't just want to be the run-stopping Alabama."

As good as our defense has been the past two years it seemed like most of the time we needed just a little bit more pass rush. I think this year if we can keep our folks healthy, we will have a very formidable pass rush and with our DB's a lot more experienced than last year look for more sacks, more INT's and, best of all, MORE 'W's !

p.s. The addition of Coach Chris Rumph might also be a positive factor in pass rush.

As for Upshaw, he played one of the best games of his career against Michigan State (five solo tackles, two sacks, forced fumble), with his ankle feeling strong after more than a month away from game action.
And he's more than ready to deliver some carryover.

"I feel good. The ankle isn't giving me any problem," Upshaw said. "I've been through the off-season program and it's been good."

Keep these guys healthy, and we'll have a special group this year.

I agee with the first love, is keeping people injury free. The year we were Champs we had very few injuries. Last year they killed us. Now another thing this year it seems we are going to have some depth that is on fire to step in. Sounds so good. RTR!
