this guy was 111-43-4 in the big ten and 5-9 in bowls games.  maybe they should investigate the big 10 also since he didn't dominate there too well

One man's success breeds another man's jealousy. Cooper has always been classless, not to mention a lousy coach.

The guy was rambling and was trying to change to subject from Ohio State and all of its problems to making intangible allegations against the entire SEC. I remember Cooper at OSU. He had some very good teams, but he ALWAYS choked the big game. He was 3-11 against Michigan which is what got him fired. At least 2, maybe 3 times, he had an undefeated team and was ranked #1, but either lost to Michigan or lost the Rose Bowl. He once stated he didn't understand what the big deal was about the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry, it was just another game to him.

I live up here, so I have heard about him from both sides...

He was a decent coach, excellent recruiter, but always choked in the big games.  He was actually 2-10-1 against Michigan, and 3 of those losses OSU was undefeated and in the top 5 rankings going in...   He also went 3-8 in bowl games while at the helm.  But he sent a LOT of talent to the NFL.

The Buckeye fans tired of his crap midway (or sooner) thru his tenure...and he didn't start off very good either.  His first TV commercial was recorded in front of the stadium, which he referred to as "Buckeye Stadium"....uh, John, it's Ohio Stadium...so, he was ruffling feathers right out of the gate up here.   I have friend of mine, who is OSU alumni, who each year, would send a 3-4 page letter to the president of the university after OSU would lose to Michigan.  He had quite a nice party after the finally fired Cooper.   I attended, he was elated that Cooper was finally gone, and somehow convinced that his letters had something to do with it...yeah, probably his and thousands of others.    Wink

Funny about his comments about QBs as well.   About the most well known QB that played for Cooper would be Kirk Herbstreit, and that wasn't because of his QB prowess, but because of his ESPN visibility.

You guys ever listen to him talk....reminds me of Boonhower on the King of the Hill cartoon...

That kind of thinking is exactly what got a lot of coaches fired.

If Cooper knew what he was talking about he'd still be coaching.  And, if he knew what he was talking about HE would have talked to the NCAA like a former SEC coach did.  I get REALLY tired of the BIG 10 blowhards whining about the SEC while talking up their academics.  Wonder how many graduates they had on their last national championship team?  I believe we had about 20!   Angry

Bingo!! Cooper was not from OSU, but Bo Schembechler understood the importance and magnitude of the game. When Jim Tressel took over at OSU from Cooper, in his first news conference he stated the number one mission of OSU was to beat Michigan. He understood.

Seems the entire Big 10 has given up (quit) on winning the crystal on the field and have turned to the NCAA to give it to them. Whiney voices from people that have never considered what THEY can do to improve their chances. To make matters worse, I think the SEC has gained inroads into their backyards for recruiting. But instead of practicing a little harder, their answer is to throw unfounded allegations. I guess this at least appeases their fan bases, while they continue to lose. LOL

Oh yeah, definitely recruiting in their turf.... DePriest is from Springfield, OH and the Buckeye fans were NOT happy when he signed with Bama.

There's another OL kid, Ryan Kelly, from West Chester, OH, northern suburb of Cincinnati that was in the signing class last year as well.   The Buckeyes wanted him as well...

There is even a guy on the roster from Dublin, OH, which is a western suburb of Columbus on the roster, though I haven't heard of him, Jerrod Bierbower...
