It would be logical but logic is not always used.

Houston is closing in on a decision to make Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin its next football coach, pending a Thursday meeting at which school President Renu Khator will have to give the final OK, two people with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports. Those people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the school had not yet announced the move.

ESPN story with a little more info on UH's timetable for today.  If UH sticks to their demands on a buyout (paid to UH if Kiff leaves), this might not happen with Kiff. But I could see him agreeing to a diminishing buyout so that after 2-years it's a small number, and after 3-years none.

That would explain why this is dragging on.

I think Kiffin blew it if he refused a large buyout. What's wrong with 4 years at Houston?

 Huh?

So the OC Saban forced out after 2007 takes the job that appeared to be the current Saban OC's for the taking.  Stars

Uh-oh! I've got an avatar bet over at the Woolly that Kiffin won't be going to USF. This increases the odds of me losing.  Sad

The Houston Cougars have hired offensive coordinator Major Applewhite to succeed Tom Herman as the team's new head coach, it was announced Friday.

"When we set out on our search for the new leader of our football program, we wanted a coach with great integrity who believed in our mission and truly believed in our student-athlete experience," athletic director Hunter Yurachek said in a statement. "We had our sights set on a focused competitor who has demonstrated success and possesses a deep connection to college and high school football in the great state of Texas.

Houston better hope he's learned a lot since being at Bama. I wonder if they have a RB named Darby?

That sounds like they were writing the job request from a copy of Applewhite's resume...

Finebaum has been saying all along that the buyout was the sticking point for Kiffin.

Understandably after having Herman, Sumlin and Briles leave, Houston wants a bit longer tenure for its next coach.

On the flip side, a large buyout also protects coaches who don't produce.

What are the chances Kiff stays at Bama for another year?  I keep hearing CNS wants him gone, but why? I'd rather have him stay at Bama than go to LSU.
