I will give it a fair shake, but I have concerns headed in. I can see the committe screwing it up.
I can see an SEC team left out, or having to play the SEC championship game and then turn around and play another game in 10 days.
I just think it is the best way they could come up with to keep two SEC teams from finishing into the final 4.

I like it and expect to see 2 SEC teams in the playoffs on a regular basis.  When they first announced it I went back and looked at the final BCS standings and there were 2 SEC teams either in the top 4 or very close about every other year.  One thing I am not sure about is the potential for a rematch of the SEC championship game.

I think it helps the SEC. We have been the best team in the country by far the last two years and needed all kinds of luck to make the BCS Championship game. A one loss team has a good chance in the four team playoff.

Remember it is two years off. We still have one more BCS Championship to win before the playoff starts.

I may need to look at the rules on it again, but i'm pretty sure it don't matter if two SEC teams are one and 3 at the end of the year, only one SEC team would make it in. its that rule of confrence champion and then highest rated. so if Big 10 has #2 spot and won there confrence and big 12, Pac 12 have conf champs, that Number 3 SEC team is out.

im just saying i don't think its going to be a plus for the SEC.

looking back on what i could find, because its not final yet, it says that consideration will be given to teams that win their confrence.

its a playoff and everyone wants a playoff, even though i cant find anything wrong with the BCS.

You may be right now that I think about it.  I was basing my analysis of the top 4 BCS teams from before we had the rules.  I don't think I have actually read the rules since they came out.

I haven't read the rules either but this is from the Mike Slive interview that CP posted a link to...

Quote
For the conference that has claimed the last seven BCS titles, making sure the teams weren't restricted to conference champions was a big factor. It helped spark a push for change when Alabama and LSU met in the championship game two years ago in an SEC Western Division rematch.

If two SEC teams are deemed among the top four in the new system, both will get their shot.

"It was an important piece," Slive said. "It took us about a year to put all this together, and one of the foundational pieces of it was that there wouldn't be a limit. We're looking for the best teams to play in the playoff. We didn't want to create artificial limit. That was basically an artificial limit in the old system."

If I understand correctly what he's saying then two (or even more) SEC teams could be selected for the playoff.

They still have not decided who will be picking the four teams. They are using the NCAA basketball selection committee as a model with the goal to be the best four teams.

I think it will be difficult to get two SEC teams in other than a rare occassion under any formula.

I just don't like the idea of a committee making the decision. The BCS poll was not perfect , but is a far cry more fair than a committee who may or may not have members with an agenda.

Hard to know how this is going to play out.  SEC is so much stronger than any other football conf.  SEC teams beat each other up both physically (injuries) and losses. (This is why I am opposed to a 9-game conf schedule.)  IF two SEC teams get in, and don't play each other in the semifinal round, then I'll guess than most of the time the champ game will be all SEC.  That will pi$$ folks off.

Selection committee is frought with political mess.  Have to hope that polls and maybe computer rankings will continue to be published, and these will have some mitigating effect on the committee.

For Bama, the solution to all these obsticles is winning.....But we all knew that already.  RTR

Correct.  It appears that the SEC has made sure that it isn't limited to one team.

Overall, I think the new system will be a plus for the SEC.  This year, and many others, required non-SEC teams to lose games late in the season for the SEC to get into the BCSCG.  It could easily have been ND v. Kansas State, Oregon, or even Ohio State this year if things had played out differently, and that would be a game without the best teams in the nation.  SEC teams face a greater challenge than other-conference teams in going undefeated for the season, so overall the new system seems to insure that an SEC team will still get a shot, and maybe two SEC teams in some years.

Also, the new system is better than the joke that is the BCS.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you there, CP. Picking a handful of experts to pick the playoff teams is like putting together a panel of politicians to select the president of the U.S.

I guess we'll see when they pick the "experts."   I would have no problem with former coaches, like Gene Stallings and Bobby Bowden.

Sounds like a lot of confusion at the first. I would hope that they improve this thing every year or every other year till they get the best there is in a playoff. RTR!
